I've got an original VN Berlina-BT1, it has a standard memcal.
AFAIK, the only modifications done to my car were..

1. FE2 suspension
2. Speedo (2KMH increments)
3. Sump bash plate
4. Interior light override on dash
5. Brake pads
6. Towing hook point at front of car

Ta John.
Did the Feds have the same access to this type of goodie?

I don't know about the VN but the XE Police pursuit cars had stock engines.
When XE was released I worked for Ford and part of my job was ordering
engines from Geelong, the only engine that was different was the truck
(F100) engine and the only difference was the lack of an egr valve.
If the Police cars had modified engines the mods must have been done
after the cars left the factory which would have voided the warranty.

Over the years some cars were modified. The last being VK's over 20 years
ago. The chasers had the Brockadore motor of the day. They were the only
model that I know were modified.

My Falcon still has the speedo marked out in 2k intervals (as opposed to the
usual 5k). I

SA Police will not be using SS Commodore's anymore and just have 6 cylinders
like WA Pol. But it's a bit odd where Vic still use 8 cylinder's when the
main car's who start pursuits are divisional vans or sedans and then request
a TMU car which sometimes isn't available as most chases occur at night time
hours.

I did hear something about VicPol drilling holes into the fuel tank / hoses
to fit radio boxes in the rear and causing the car's to stall. There have
been a number of the Blue Smart XR8 police cars breaking down and not being
able to be restarted. Also heard (but can't say this is true though) that
those same Blue Police cars had modified camshafts e.t.c from factory.

Yep - I've got the paper work here somewhere that shows the details of
the mods.

Will chase it up.

Agree that they wouldn't have been done post factory. I saw one that
had it's motor pulled down at Bayside Holden (Frankston). Bayside had
about 6 or 7 of them doing the disposal work for that areas cars at the
end of the XE life - fixing up the interiors, plugging the holes in
roofs and a few other bits and pieces. This one definitely had 4 bolt
mains. They were all 4 speed manuals. I remember taking one of the
young sales guys for a drive in one. Stopped on the road near the
service entrance and dropped the clutch with 3000rpm in 1st. The car
just crept smoking sideways across the road before launching. They had
$11-13K on them depending on condition. Last one I saw advertised was
Unique Cars about 2 years ago - which also mentioned the 4 bolt mains motor.

If interested, it might be worth digging up some info from Ford.

As mentioned below, I have the full specs floating around somewhere and
will dig them out. 100% sure it included the chip, but will confirm.
From memory, there was a specific code on the chip that identifies it.
Could yours have been swapped out? Does the engine have the extra
knock sensor harness?

These sites list the police memcal from VP onwards and also, as far as
V8's were concerned(VN-VS), knock sensors were only fitted on HSV enhanced
models. I would be interested in seeing your info as it goes against what
I've been able to dig up on these cars so far.

This diagram shows the knock sensor and says "HSV models only"...

What you need is the "sido" number from the id plate, it tells you the
cars full build data.
Ford Customer Service used to give out the info if you had that number,
don't know if they still do it.

That's an excellent site with good info. Good to see this sort of info
is being kept alive!

My VN had the chip and harness. The harness was for any car that used
the HSV chip - including the police cars. Be interested to see if yours
has one.

Still looking for the paperwork.... :-)

My XE had 2kph increments but it was not an ex Police car

Basically it was a GL with with S-Pack specs(dash, wheels, seats,
suspension) just no stripes
even had the S-Pack front bumper/spoiler

one owner from Griffith NSW, was bought from a Ford Dealer in Canberra
in August 84
