Wow, some of those screenshots look like photos. The city gfx are
visibly computer, but everything else (especially the water effects)
are WOW...

As cool as it looks, I find it hard to get excited over this. I think
consoles are at a point where they could actually have some sim-esque titles
out there, and offer an actual flight stick and throttle controller. If
there were a few fun titles that used the controller (look at Steel
Battalion) then it might be worth my while.

But we will see. Once the Xbox 360 gets below $150 and depending on the
titles, I may go for it. Otherwise, I'll stick with the PC.

The water effects are overdone. The ocean doesn't look natural. Aside from
the F-18, the other plane models are very average and the ground looks like
it came from Jetfighter 3. An don't even get me started on the title.

completely agree. Looks like the standard air combat games that have
been on the PS2 since launch. Very very poor.

Here's the video that those screens were taken from. Very very
impressive.

My god that is hideous. And is that meant to be Tokyo Tower in the
third from last screen? I'm quite sure it wasn't surrounded by entirely
flat and lifeless green and grey.

Hey Falcon, what's the keypad sequence for that Cobra maneuver?

Is the pit view blacked out or what?

it's always been called Energy Airforce. There are already 2 games of
this series on the PS2, in fact, Energy Airforce was the first PS2 game
(and to my knowledge the first game ever.. to use a helmet with HUD,
which ofcourse never made it out of Japan). It's unknown if this is a
new game in the series or simply an enhenced port of one of these two
games.

While I'm not that impressed either as a die-hard PC flight simmer, I
realize these responses are why flight sims are such a niche product. We
expect perfection and criticize an attempt to support the hobby we love. It
is a console, keep in mind.

Yeah but it's a fucking beast of a console. These graphics don't look
like several GHz and many years above the likes of Super EF2000 and
FS98 that I was playing on a P200 many years ago, especially the
terrain.

you mean something like this?

http://gear.ign.com/articles/562/562988p1.html

and this is the HMD that was supported by the original Energy Airforce,
too bad it never made it out of Japan

Yeah, like that. But unfortunately there is none for the XBOX or X360.
Granted there is absolutlely nothing combat flight worthwhile for the XBOX.

who knows.. maybe Taito can get MS to make a similar device for them.
Notice that the HMD is a Sony device, not a Taito device, so maybe
Taito can swing the same deal with MS, and MS has made sticks for the
PC so it shouldn't be much of a stretch to make the stick as well.
