View Full Version : Windows on the EF11

Hi,
Three out of 4 of my windows on my EF11 Fairmont no longer work. Push
the button and all you hear is the motor whirring.
I have pulled off the front drivers door panel and it looks to me like
the wire assembly has seperated from the main motor assembly. It is a
spring and cable assembly - but seems (once upon a time) to have been
anchored more firmly to the assembly.
Has something fallen off - or is it broken for good????
Appreciate any help!!!!

It's broken for good.
They have a common fault whereby the plastic retainer that secures the cable
breaks, allowing the cable to free spool and not raise/lower the window.
They can sometimes be modified and put back in use, but more often than not
the cable gets caught in the winch drum mechanism and becomes permanently
kinked, making it useless for further service.
The only option in such cases is a complete window regulator assembly, which
were around a couple of hundred bucks each without the motor the last time I
bought one (quite some time ago).

you require new regulators.
if your selling the car soon, get second hand, if not, get new. They're
disposable consumables that cost a bloody fortune and are a pain in the arse
to replace. The originals are riveted in, so be prepared to drill them out
if your going to change them and use suitably sized nuts and bolts with the
new one(s).
Have fun.
