Remember back in mid september when fuel prices did a huge leap upward?
Since then the petrol price has gradually come down so that its now
around 115 in NSW. But why has diesel remained up in the 30s?
Just yesterday I saw a ULP-diesel price difference of 20 cents at one
servo.

Back in the '70s, diesel was half the price of petrol.

A mate of mine makes it out of chip oil. Problem is every time i visit he
tries to offload as many 2L milk bottles full of black degreaser (a
by-product of the process?). "makes your hands as soft as a baby's bum
....etc....etc....". His garage is overflowing with the shit!

Seems to be coming down in some places now. See
http://www.aip.com.au/pricing/market.htm (especially terminal
gate prices towards the end of the page).

The oil companies say it is because of supply, China and most Asian
countries use a lot of diesel so the need is higher and they can not keep up
with supply so prices stay high. Petrol on the other hand gets a glut so
they drop the price and people buy, reservses drop and price goes up again.
the answer is for all people to use diesel so the oil companies can gear up
to make mainly diesel, with higher propuction prices will go down.
