Imagine... Take a car that would normally be in a wreckers at best.
Then make it LOOK like an Autosalon car.

Dont work any handling or performane, just paint it in the cheapest, most
garish colour you can possibly find and then fit in as many speakers will
physically fit. Oh and TVs. And a playstation.

Then put some "bling" rims on, and voila.

Dont worry about opening the bonnet, thats not important.
Dont worry about the fact the bum who couldnt afford a new car wont be able
to afford rubber for their 24" rims.
Dont worry about the body rust, by the time that shows through the bogged up
paint, the show will be off the air.

... etc

Yep. Take 1 shitbox car and turn in into 1 serious bling mobile. Which the
owner generally puts on ebay before the show ends.

To sum it up. The dude selling the 24" rims for a Jeep on eBay would think
it is the best show ever. I prefer Monster Garage or Rides.

Automania is not bad (the smokey and the bandit episode that actualy had
Burt and the car from the film in it was pretty cool) , American Hotrod is
pretty good so far also from what I have seen.

Chances are... yes.

The majority of the time they'll take a pissy little car that's barely
running, fill it with 20 grand worth of new paint job, insane stereo,
20"+ rims and whatever else they think of. I don't think they touch the
motor, if they do then they certainly don't show it. The most
ridiculous one they've done was a Daihatsu van the bloke bought for
$300, which they crammed 20 grand worth of equipment into... it looked
nothing short of stupid by the end of it.

However I must admit from the few episodes that I've caught on Austar, I
have seen a couple of respectable vehicles emerge. My favourite was a
1985 Ford Van (ridiculous american size) that ended up looking very tidy
when they were done with it. They've also fixed up a few late 60's -
70's american cruisers which end up looking respectable.

Blech. I'll prolly watch it and throw up some way though, then wonder
why I watched it. Most like suffering withdrawal symptoms from "Drawn
Together" that just finished on SBS (therefore looking for ROTFLOL
moments, which I trust will exist).

"How to make a shitbox ricer"

Imagine taking a 1982 Sigma 4 door or a EA-EB falcon sedan or bomadore
and trun it into a pimp mobile, and in the process somehow get away with
not even opening the bonnet.

Its the upmarket way to tidy up a car instead of putting on spinning
hubcaps from k-mart billybong and blue herring stickers and sports
seats covers.

Well worth watching if you are 17-22yo and also great veiwing for the
serverly boaganised type.
It would cause tha latter to walk straight into a brick wall after
spending their entire life living day and night for a Gold VT bombadore
with mags and sideskirts with a V6 engine cause they can afford it and
get the full attention of other like minded boagans.
Yeah......sigmas look good too....lol.

acctually , dont know what they call it , but they did this truck thing up
for this girl, it was like an 50's 60s model truck and the engine died on
the way in
and from memoery they put in a new engine, theyve done this a few times
Id like to see an aussie version of the show, cant stand the UK version, i
think mtv only had it on once,
milo

If the car's on its last legs, they drop a Magna donk in it!

But they couldn't call it RiceORama now, could they?

Depends, I think it's great. Not from a car mod point of view, it's just a
no brainer fun show.
The cars go in as wrecks and come out Pimpin (ie ridiculously loud colours,
interiors, with tvs and sub woofers all over them etc). But it isn't
suppoesd to be a How-To Car mod show, it's just popcorn TV.

To give you an idea, one car had LCD screens installed underneath it so
that the guy could watch TV while working on his car, another show, a van
had a video wall across the whole inside of it. Completely impractical, but
as I said, don't take it seriously as some poeple in this NG obviously have,
and it's enjoyable.

BTW the Poms made a copy and it is absolutely crap. The thing that works for
the LA version is that Pimpin is an LA thing, and all the guys in the show
are obviously from pimpin, gangsta type backgrounds so it works. The pommys
are just wannabe try hards and the end result is shit.
