Edit - I got the point, the slow comeback editted in wasn't really required. :rolling:I'm lost. What slow comeback edit? Forget it, it's not important to the thread.

I was under the assumtion that it was a choice as to which audio track you used on DTS enabled discs - either DD5.1 which the player outputs wherever you direct it to in the player set-up, OR full DTS usually only via optical / coaxial? output (I have only ever used optical), and that by selecting the DTS track on the DVD, you MUST have a system capable of decoding the DTS audio (usually via a surround sound amp with DTS capability).
Linton, I am aware I have 6 "direct" audio outputs on the back of my player for the hook-up you have suggested, but as I stated, I assumed that they were not CAPABLE of DTS output.
It might just be my player, or it might just be me, but I always thought those outputs were 5.1 only, and that if you hooked them up with the audio output from the player pointed to them, that selecting DTS wouldn't work.
I'm willing to be proven wrong, as I'm no audiophile, but this subject has me intrigued.

Hey Linton, you left off my post when you split the thread....

There is a distinct difference. 99% of DVD players will have DTS output, but not all have DTS decoding.
This is identified easiest by the little symbol on the front of the player. If it stated DTS output, then it's not decoded in the player.
A large DTS symbol is presented when it's decoded by the player.

how about the sub has an internal amp to power the satellites
flash amounts of cash?
when my home stereo died i bought a reciever and 6 speakers for about
$1200 including cables.
very happy now as the dvd player is the cd player (mp3 capable too which is a bonus) and with the reciever ,, a tuner for radio and ta daa , a dts decoder.
not expensive at all when you see the results.
dts is the only way to go if available
i know people who spend that on their cars in a month.

How about this one? Your video can play back NTSC format, but your TV cannot. What happens if you try to play an NTSC format video or DVD on a monitor/TV that cannot play NTSC back? You get rubbish, B&W playback only etc. Same here with DTS

Speaker package. Not speakers.
And yes, the packages I'm refering to have the amp in the sub (should of made this clear seeing as this is the only part of your entire arguement that I could have overlooked).

linton,
i know what you mean.

I'm not sure if the point is being missed or not, if you have a DVD player with an onboard decoder it can decode the surround sound information (dolby digital or DTS, whatever the case may be) and send the analogue signal out to a seperate amp, or to a cheap set of amplified speakers as posted in the link earlier, effectively meaning that a DVD player that has its own built in DTS decoder can be connected to these cheap amplified speakers (they actually start at under $50 at the moment) and the DTS decoded soundtrack can be reproduced, perhaps not at its best, but reproduced nonetheless.

how about the dvd player has 6 rca outs for signal. 1 for each channel that goes directly into the powered sub for distribution to the speakers?
then ...........

Yes, that's correct, they send the decoded signal out, there is no other purpose for the 6 analogue outputs other than dealing with a decoded signal of some sort.

The D in DTS means DIGITAL. As far as I know ANALOGUE Does not start with D. Analogue DOES NOT = Digital.

you keep posting the image, forget the image, I didn't look closely enough.
Look at the speaker package directly below it. It's what I've been refering to all along. buy the speaker package, and if the player decodes DTS, you will hear DTS.

I'm not sure what you are trying to point out (besides your spelling abilities :D ) can you be more specific??
