Noddy, you have failed to realise it's a six, same market as the XR6
and SV6.

I don't think you read the article completely...?

It carries a touch more weight than the base 380 theoretically making
it less of a performer. It's significantly down on power compared to
the XR6T and the SV8 which, incidently, are cheaper than the 380GT.

'More of the "wow" factor is needed to lift the GT above the crowd.'

At least 60kW more wow I would say. I think you've mistaken dung for
caviar.

But it's not a turbo, and nor an 8, and better equipped than both.

Exactly, it's left floundering with a huge price tag with standard
drivetrain and engine. It's meant to be the signature model that
combines sports performance and luxury but it provides less performance
than the base model because it's heavier than the standard model with
no performance gains!

You'd think they would put a few more ponies under the bonnet if
they want to advertise it as their signature model.

I'm sure you could tart up the base 380 to that of the GT and walk
away with change... lots of change.

Please tell me where Grand Touring means high performance vehicle?
It's a high spec model designed as a Grand Touring vehicle and it does
that job very well.
173kW and 343Nm, a bit less that the heavier and bigger Falcon
2kW down but 40 or so Nm up on the slightly lighter Commodore.

Why?
It would never compete with a V8 and has plenty of go for a 6.

You'd need a whole new suspension package, leather trim, wheels and
tyres, sound system, electric seat and a whole lot of other goodies.

Yet 0-100 in more time than both of them.

Whole new suspension package?! Not according to the website. Those
extras don't seem to add up to $13.5k worth of value to me. The GT
badge is simply a monkier of the base model with all the optional
extras. Hardly inspiring and hardly going to make Ford or Holden
eat dung.

I haven't looked,
I know the VRX and GT have an uprated suspension package.

Then you have no idea of the cost of this stuff.
Look at the cost of leather on any vehicle for a start, then look at
the rest of the inclusions that I haven't mentioned.

>The GT

Huh?
Try optioning a base 380 to a GT level...first it isn't possible, and
if it was, it'd cost more than the cost of a GT.

>Hardly inspiring and hardly going to make Ford or Holden

Have you even sat in a 380, driven one?
I can tell you that stepping from a Commodore into one makes you very
aware of just how old the Holden is.... I haven't driven a BF yet.

but its their top performance model. theyre idiots if theyre aiming that at
base model holden and ford competition.

noone in their right mind interested in a top spec performance sedan would
opt for the gt over a xr6t or ss, theres no power difference. in the 380.
why they didnt continue with their awd program and chucked a turbo on is
beyond me.

Just about every car released to date with that title has been performance
based. I don't think you'll find it as a rule written in stone anywhere, but
most people would consider any "GT" model to have a performance edge over
it's non GT brethren.

Better performance than the base model doesn't neccessarily equate to
high performance. I'd certainly not want less performance from their
signature sports model than the base model!

> >Yet 0-100 in more time than both of them.
>
> Not so.
> You obviously didn't read the whole Wheels article where you gleaned

I didn't glean it from a Wheels article. I can't even remember the last
time I read Wheels. Perhaps an old copy in a waiting room at the local
tyre joint. Now admittedly it was on a number of web based forums that
I frequent that had a number of performance based comparisons and the
380 didn't favour very well in any of them 0-100 and 400m. Perhaps
they're all incorrect for all I know.

For some reason (and sadly I've also bought into it) we consider 0-100
and 400m times in high regard. I'd expect the signature sports model to
at least be able to beat the pov pack.

Hey, I'm also pretty stinky about the XR6 being a tarted up XT. A
sports model IMO should have a bit more go than the pov pack ontop of
being able to handle and brake better. The GT apparently can do 1 out
of 3 better than its pov comparison.

> Look at the cost of leather on any vehicle for a start

I've seen it done for $2000 aftermarket and better quality than the
factory. I was considering getting mine done but then I remembered
what it does to the cornhole in summer. :P

> then look at the rest of the inclusions that I haven't mentioned.

Still don't see the extra $13.5k. Perhaps you should take a look at
the website. I had the brochure at the office and there were a number
of things I would have left off and saved cash on if I were to buy
one. If it were all the extras plus 20kW/20Nm ontop then it might be
worth the $13.5k extra to me.

Take a look at the difference between the VRX and the GT. The additional
roadside assistance would want to be worth $5000 more to make up for the
$8000 difference.

> >Hardly inspiring and hardly going to make Ford or Holden
> >eat dung.
>
> Have you even sat in a 380, driven one?

Yes. Not bad, hadn't driven it's ugly aunt so I can't compare the two. I
drive an XR8 (and this is where you can take a dig at me I guess) but my
colleagues opted to drive the bland XT company car, a few of them are
due for replacements and they're all sticking with the XT after taking
the 380 for a spin.
