Obviously you dont mean beat it in a relative physical position sense, cause
I assure you that even my underpowered, over weighted and under engineered
work van can quite easily beat a landcruiser in a speed (or handling) race.
Never seen a company make a diesel with so many cubic inches yet produce
such little power. It really is astonishing. And they managed to keep the
shithouse fuel economy too! GENIUS!
I'm sure its reliable though. And it would want to be, when they charge such
stupidly high prices for the most basic of parts. $150 for toyota flasher
can? Jeebus. My laser part cost me $12.50 from mazda.

hook 3 tonnes to the back of your van and see who can outrun who

You need to look at torque and where its made in the RPM range before
coming to that shitty conclusion.

A matter of days ago, turbo diesel ute. Whatever the hell a 2004 model is.
8k/litre, and slower unloaded than my van is loaded. Not to mention almost
falls off the road taking sweeping bends at 100kph. Good aircon though.
The one prior to that was also a matter of days ago, and is a non-turbo
diesel ute of around 2002 vintage. Most gutless wonder ever, and saggy
springs to boot. Had to replace most of the rear end stuff with "towing
pack" items to stop the front wheels lifting off the ground once we loaded
any sort of gear on the back.
And the one prior to that was a petrol 6 pot from WAYYYY back in the day,
I'm talking old-skool 70's stuff. Now THAT was a cool vehicle, nothing like
the roof rattling and almost lifting off the cab at anything faster than
60kph, not that going faster than 60kph was reccomended on those tall tires
and vague suspension. FWIW, the fastest we got that thing was 125kph (no
more revs left, sorry) at which point it blew a tire.. hooray :D

Which one chief? You quoted my whole post.... The one about power I assume?
Show me a dyno sheet for the two vehicles in question and I'll happily look
at the torque and where its made. And still conclude that van > cruiser,
based on reality.

I'm sure a van towing 3tonne will get beaten by an unloaded cruiser ;)

Sorry :)
Lets go back to fighting a common enemy - speed cameras and serialpest (and
bloody warning triangles).

He obviously hasn't driven a Patrol, I've been beating the crap out of my 89
GQ offroad for 5 years now, smashed up the sills, even got dings in the
bonnet somehow, the only reason you give up trying to climb something is
panel damage, Toyota's have to give up after a few attempts before the
driveline fails.

Not enough room on the internet for 10 + years of Lada report.
