Dose anyone know if the paint codes for land vehicles used in the
Australian army can be reproduced legally or are in the public domain.
A color name would be a great help,I have googled that "Dark Olive
Green Flatbase" is possibly a color used early on,I would like to go
current colors if possible.
If I had time I would like to develope my own color that is almost
totally invisable, however I note that the army has already done most of
this research.
Any suggestions are great.

From memory, contact the ADF's MEMA in Melbourne and ask them.
* Mechanical & Engineering Maintenance Agency (or similar). Perhaps seek via: 03 9282 4446.

I like that...Army Paint (AU) ....lol
If made by wattyl it is cheap and enamel should be prefect for the
job, although you have me doubting the technology behind this color
choice...lol
Could have been decided on by a bunch of Aus Army Cammo's techs on a
friday night at the BBQ over carton of beer each.
I think Lusterless Olive Drab is the color of choice.
Thanks for this info.

I have a new tin (20 litres) of that paint (516-31088).
It's the base colour of the current Aus DP. It is also the old
Landrover colour before the 110's came out.
The colour *is* different to the WWII and post WWII OD paint. There you
will need 318, 33070 or 33087, depending on the vehicle and year. The
post war deep bronze green (the dark glossy British colour) is very
different.
True OD is a very hard colour to match and has to be done by hand as the
computer based systems will not work on this colour.

Going by what you say is this that forn color that appeared on early
Land Rovers?
>From a website I see that it is very close to Forn yellow.
This is a custom application, rather than original,The idea is cammo, not
replication.
I read up on the paint and they say it is a rough paint that you are
not supposed to touch unless you have to, to prevent it from becomming
shiny, and that it soaks up oil,so on.
Is this true about the paint you have?
We could have trouble identifing each other,I guess I hope we are on
the same side...lol
I am looking for a T32 too.....just kidding!

Hi! The colour is a version of OD, that is more khaki (brown) than the
earlier greener OD.
Yes, the paint is flat (lusterless), so has a roughish finish, not
glossy and smooth. If you touch it, it will mark and show oil stains
etc. In fact, the army used to rub them down with diesel to make them
shiny and get rid of all the marks for inspections... :-)
I have a new 20l tin of genuine Wattyl army OD paint. It will thin down
a fair bit, so lots of paint...
It's yours if you want it. The only problem is I can't ship it, but
you're welcome to pick it up from Melbourne. :-)

Ahh,that sounds like a better color I think i know it,I was in a debate
about the forn color however was going ahead with it.
I did research and found that the forn color had design for that the
mind traces darker color in a background rather than a lighter
shade, unless the color actually resembles its surroundings to
perfection, more than likey the forn color was designed for a range of
conditions from desert to green bush and the australian landscape.
The forn color when set into a green paddock would resemble a clay
patch, and cause the mind to trace for darker objects to lock onto etc.
I will be opperating in dense bush, there is some clay arround however
mostly it is a very dark green.
I think a darker color would be ideal for day and night use in rain
forrest.

"Forn" is named after animals, which are known as Fawns.
