As the subject line says, I'm having remote control issues with my Wintal
PVR. Buttons started losing responsiveness, until it stopped working
entirely.

Only it's not the batteries - a brand new set did not help. However, I
suspect the problem may not be the remote itself - I have a little remote
control sensor attached to my PC (from and old Hollywood plus card) that
lights up its LED when you use any remote on it (even though it only
responds to the one its meant for). It does light up when I use my Wintal
remote on it.

So my theory is that the remote is totally fine and the sensor in the PVR is
faulty. My question is, has anyone had this problem and can they say for
sure whether or not it was the remote or the unit itself that was faulty
(not that your case would be guaranteed to match mine)? And were they able
to get it fixed/replaced?

Obviously I have to just bring the thing back to where I got it, I hope it's
still under warranty... I was just hoping to learn more about the problem if
possible.

I had this problem with my first X10 remote. Turned out the supplied
(cheapie) batteries had leaked, saturating the circuit board inside with
battery acid. I discovered this the hard way, when I got an unexpected warm
tingling sensation in my right hand while using the remote :D

Another thing that's caused me hassles with the X10 remote, though, is the
fact that under certain conditions when it doesn't have clear line-of-sight
to the PVR it'll work intermittently. Check that you haven't moved the PVR
back in the shelf, or stacked something next to and in front of it (sounds
logical, I know, but it can actually be quite picky despite its IR sensor
being very sensitive).

It's got a 3 year warranty, so you should be right.
