Well guys, finally got around to pulling the front of the XJ6, to remove
the belts, pulleys, etc.
After I got the last belt of, the inside pulley (harmonic balancer) listed
to on side. It has half an inch play side to side :-)
The only reason it could not fall off, is there are two other pulleys in
front of it, bolted to the crankshaft!!
Many thanks for your imput.
Ron

Oww. that could have been nasty , check the condition of the crank with
a micrometer or good vernier if you have one and a straight edge along
the snout....

Can tell you in all honesty, it hasn't been started for close to two
years, since I left Perth (thanks to my charming husband stealing
ex-fiance) plus the tanks had more holes than a sieve,
so.......restoration work will be the order of the day.
yes yes yes I'm familiar with the cost involved and the (George) Lucas
Prince of Darkness electrics; my mate down the road from where I used
to live (RIP John) was a former Jag spanner; knew his stuff he did.
Many bottles of Scotch were consumed in the never ending quest of
easing the pain of owning a Leyland built Jag-hoo-are.

When it's finished you can dress the wife up like the queen and drive around
the suburb with her waving from the back.

My wife adores being driven in ours (420G 1968) and will be much more so
when the restoration is over after xmas , fresh 4 coats of white with
clear over a special base , 16" wire spokes and new red leather
upholstery and all the wood done with 15 coats of hand rubbed lacquer
with twin 2.5" stainless and glass packs ( sounds awesome) ... have a
bit to do yet once I finish this new diploma at tafe .
