Which defeats the purpose in my humble opinion.
I certainly appreciate the work that goes into such a project (I mean, shit,
the bodywork alone is nothing short of artistic brilliance), but I
personally couldn't be fucked with such a project just so it can spend it's
days as a show car trailer queen.
As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing more satisfying than *driving* your
latest creation :)

I agree. I see them as car shaped pieces of art. But I'd still drive it if
I owned it.

*Big* money.
His last effort was a totally hand made car based very loosely on a '36 Ford
convertible, and it's a truly amazing vehicle. Many thousands of hours went
into it, and although I don't know exactly how much it cost to build I think
there wouldn't have been much change out of a hundred & fifty large.
It'll spend it's days on the US show circuit, and get all of that back and
then some.

He does indeed.
On this very subject, I was quite surprised today when I watched a replay of
"American Hotrod" on Foxtel this morning. It premiered on Tuesday night, but
I forgot about it. At least the good thing about Foxtel is that you know
you'll see it again (and again, and again, and again :)
Anyway, the show was basically a look into Boyd Coddington's shop, and the
bit that surprised me was the number of fucking illiterate morons he has
working for him. I mean, this guy's shop turns out some A grade cars, yet
some of the guys I saw on the show were about as sharp as a custard tart,
and I wouldn't let them near my kid's billy cart.

It's way too easy to make judgements on somebodies skills just by a 30 sec
bit of TV. I have a fitter working for our company who seems like a full on
Fuddy Duddy, but is a top class machinist on the job.
