View Full Version : Loewe TV - Component to scart cable question.

I was told you can't use a normal component->scart cable on Loewe TV's.
That they are wired up differently and you have to buy a special one from
the dealer (and pay the price). Is this true ? Has anyone bought a cable
from somewhere like Jaycar - JB hifi , and had it work ?
TIA if anyone knows.
ps. Xelos 76 cm TV btw.
ps2. I know its not exactly a 'digital' question - but I aint gonna post
this in aus.tv

I've never actually heard that, but my older Contur has troubles with
s-video (no colour). Who told you?

I have a Planus,
I think what you are talking about is the "auto switching" cable that has
the video side of composite cable included, so that when you insert a 16:9
DVD in the player it automatically switches to 16:9 from 4":3
Is this what you are trying to achieve. A "auto switching" of the 16:9
material
I have a 1.5 metre one here if you are interested in a second hand one. Its
a exos Gold purchased from stereo supplies (loewe dealer) here on Gold Coast
for a squillion dollars.
There is a workaround to this if you are interested.

I'm interested in the work around please.

So if you don't care about the autoswitching ( I leave mine in 16:9 all
the time - STB seems to take care of 4:3 material fine) then you can just
use a normal cable ?

That's right
Go into service menu and make the default 16:9
If you are viewing a stb or DVDs or even foxtel / austar 16:9 works fine.
NO good for analogue obviously

I've just had this issue with my Grundig. I use my receiver as a
switcher for component and bought a component to SCART cable from
Jaycar. I was told it should work as the pins were correctly wired for
RGB, but it didn't work, black screen.
It seems there's two types of component, RGB and YUV. Although they use
the same cables, the two are not compatible, so although the pin
assignments in the cable are correct, if your device doesn't put out an
RGB signal, you are probably out of luck or need a converter (which cost
a fair bit).
I asked Sony what the deal was and they said almost none of the TV's
that have SCART inputs support what they consider to be true component
ie. YUV. SCART is almost solely RGB. This makes sense as my IQ allows me
to output either RGB or YUV, but unfortunately the receiver is YUV
only, so it looks like until I get a new TV, I'm stuck with S-video.

Don't blame you. Just came from there. It's getting really weird. It
seemed normal when I subscribed to the ng about a month or two ago..

Xelos 76 cm TV btw.
I have a Xelos 76 and I just used a standard off the shelf Scart to component for it and it worked fine. The only thing that doesn't "FIT" with it is you can't get the back cover to sit perfectly back on because of the size of the plug (even a right angled one)
On the switching front mine occasionally changes back to Pana instead of 16:9 (usually when I switch to my gaming console and back), but it's a fairly minor thing.
