Do not buy from DVD PACIFIC as they have debited my credit card when I have not received the good I have paid for and now they are telling me that I have received them so stay right away from them as they are rip off artist in attitude and prices.I would recommend either DVD BOXOFFICE(canada) or DVD PLANET (usa)

DVD Pacific are a dodgey lot.
They do nothing other than order online on your behalf, AND charge a premium for it.

I recommend www.absound.ca - cheap prices (even when you take delivery costs into account). AND they take 1 week to arrive.
I got shipping confirmation last friday, and today my order arrived at my door (at 7am no less)

What's the story here???!!!

There was a thread (http://forums.eyo.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1222) on them last month by orko007 said how good they are.

I decided to test them out so I ordered 3 DVDs last week, they shipped out today from US.

Few things I don't like; they only email you about items being shipped if you use the more expensive courier. There's not much info. on their site, you have to email and ask them.

The DVDs better turn up or I'll kill someone! :D I have never lost any DVDs before and certainly don't want it happen this time.

If you dont mind paying extra for the same service you can get elsewhere, then DVD Pacific are fine.
I wonder what happens when you need a replacement disc though? Do they still act as the middle man?

waratahs

yes they still act as the middle man and I do know that they had to close there GOLD COAST office down due to the investigation they had against them and they still act the same as what they did to me

Ring your credit card hotline and complain. Put a stop on the payment to DVD Pacific.

This is the problem with "middle men" like DVDPacific. They never handle the goods, they rely on their suppliers to do all the work, and simply charge you an extra fee.

I'd steer clear of this mob at all costs.

Wow my experiences are so different, and I would say they arent expensive... $40 AU on average for R1 is excellent compared to $50 for same thing elsewhere. Ive bought 3 times now, and all no hassles. Sure sometimes can take 3 weeks thats due to not in stcok. DVD Box Office can take up to 4..

Try www.absound.ca

one week for shipping to sydney (3 orders now, same del. time each time)

And less than $40 for each title.

I think Ill check out absound with my next order. Even though I have had no problems with DVD Pacific, Its a bit of a worry that everyone else has had a bad time

On the contrary to what most people said, I think DVDPacific is a great retailer. Allow me to quote DVD Dude here:

"DVD Pacific are a dodgey lot.
They do nothing other than order online on your behalf, AND charge a premium for it. "

Charge a premium?! They have some of the cheapest prices I have EVER seen on the net.

I picked up Get Carter 2000, Lock up, Cliffhanger: Spec. Ed, and more for only US$9 or so each. Saying they charge a premium is a bit over the top imo.

Also, how do you consider them a "dodgey" lot? Whenever I email them with queries, etc, I get an email back within 24 hours - sometimes within 12 hours. That's customer service far superior to most online retailers (cough *TAU* cough). If that's dodgy, I don't know what to call places like Amazon.com!. :p

I used their courier service and got my discs in 4 days. Was very happy with them (Especially since I ordered a US$10 NOTLD and they gave me the Millenium Edition by accident). From what's being said, it seems DVDPacific is getting a somewhat unfair bashing.

Orko, I don't recommend changing online retailers just because a couple of people come on here complaining.

I've looked at DVD Pacific. I've compared the prices. They are more expensive.

As for customer service, TAU is wellknown for being horrible for customer service. Although I have never had probs with Reel.Com, Amazon.com, Express.com in my 3 years of onlinebuying.

Put together an order of some new titles, and compare them to a place like ABSound. Which is cheaper?
I get my titles in 7 days by normal freight, how much more do you pay for courier to save 3 days? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of buying at thelower prices?

DVDPacific dont hold stock. They charge you, then go buy them from a US retailer, who sends it to you. Now, if they don't charge a premium on those prices, how do they make money?

======
"Charge a premium?! They have some of the cheapest prices I have EVER seen on the net. "
======

My recent order thru ABSound cost me $229 including shipping
Through DVDPacific, the order is $250 including normal shipping
If you send it by courier (DHL) its $265

I let the numbers speak for themselves.

How about this, why don't you put your order through at ABSound, and then see how much it costs after converting from Canadian dollars to Aussie dollars?

I see Cliffhanger SE at ABsound for CA$14.49, which is less than AUS$20, and roughly US$9..........

Is waratahs lying about his experience? I doubt it. He doesnt mention that we should buy from someplace else instead. I think he's suffering from the fact that DVDPacific didnt send him his title, some other company did on their behalf. Now they claim he has received his dvds when he hasn't. How would they know?

I'm glad you're happy to buy from them. Some of their older titles are quite cheap, but not much cheaper than the same titles elsewhere. My point is that you aren't dealing directly with the supplier, they are a middleman, and there are inherent problems with that setup (such as the nondelivery of goods).

I wouldn't buy from them, but that's only my opinion. You dont like Amazon, but I've always had great service from them (especially when they ship an incorrect item, or it doesnt arrive). as they say...YMMV

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at. What I want to know is why do you consider them a 'dodgey' lot for going through wholesalers and adding on a slight charge? They're 'basically' doing what any other online retailer does; they just keep little or no stock. If they're conducting their business like that and it's paying off; more power to them. However, calling them a 'dodgey' lot and singling them out as placing a premium (a word that sounds worse than it really is) is a little over the top imo.

Overall, I don't really care (Everyone is entitled to their own opinion), just more curious than anything.

Perhaps dodgey is the wrong word, although going from waratahs post, maybe it isnt.

It's NOT what other online retailers do.

You make an order through Amazon, and it comes from the Amazon warehouses, not another retailer. Same goes for the other companies you deal DIRECTLY with.

DVD Pacific have no direct connection with the warehouse, and thus when something goes wrong, they have no way to track the shipment etc. They are still acting as amiddle man.

They are no different to me placing my order through ABSound on behalf of someone else, and me charging them an extra 25-30 bucks for it to cover my own costs (which isnt much).
Now when the order doesnt arrive, I can't say "you received it" like DVD Pacific are doing with waratahs.....

Whilst I see your point, DVDPacific isn't the only place that doesn't really have a warehouse. TAU is another online retailer that somewhat acts as a middle man (has very limited stock - only the occasional mainstream stuff), and fills your order through wholesalers. (So I've heard).

At the end of the day, business is business. If DVDPac is adding on a few bucks for their troubles and filling your order through wholesalers, then good on them. They're not the first, the only and definately not the last online retailer that will do so.

As for waratahs claim of not receiving his package, Its understandable why DVDPac would tell him to get lost. With the number of fraudulant claims these days, companies (or managers) get sick of people 'saying' they never received their goods, and as a result, the honest guy who has a legitimate claim is lost in a sea of fraudulant jerks trying to take the retailer for a ride.

At the end of the day, if you want protection, use courier or an insured method of some kind. Whilst it's common courtesy and expected in most cases, the companies aren't legally required to re-imburse a lost package if you have chosen an unsecure shipping method.

And on the subject of dodgey or shady businesses, It seems that people forget too quickly that the ABSound they constantly praise is the same place that was too stupid / slack / illprepared to stop a hacker gaining the credit card numbers of past and present customers and listing them on their site.

Be careful what you say here man! I'm still waiting for my first order (see above), it's been 2 weeks now. I don't want to accuse them of anything just yet but don't be supprised if I call them "dodgey" next week and post it in about 20 forums/newsgroups!

It seems you have good relationship with them buying DVDs but that doesn't mean you can blast around like that. Like I mentioned, I've bought many DVDs over the years from many online stores in US and always received them in full.

Store like Amazon do reimburse you (legitimate case only of course).

My air mail package from them took 3-4 weeks. I will admit that they are as slow as a wet week when it comes to air mail - from my experience.

I dont know what you mean by "but that doesn't mean you can blast around like that". I'm just giving my opinion. Last time I checked it was a free country.

I'm sure your package will arrive soon.

By the way, I wasn't making a comment on the validity of Waratahs' claim. I was just stating that there are con-men out there that use the goodwill of online retailers to their advantage, and it wouldn't surprise me if places (such as DVDPac) just get sick of it and ignore all claims of lost or damaged packages.

I had been using DVD paciifc quite some time ago but got sick of waiting for my order to turn up. No eta on deilvery nothing.

I am now using DVD empire,
I admit that especially with Fedex delivery its not the cheapest but I can track my order 24 hours a day. Their ordering system is online and I know whats available, and whats on backorder.
Their range is extensive and service is quite good.

If I order Thursday Australia time I will get my order Mon am (FEDEX) as long as customs dont intervine. Usually if my order doesnt cost more than $180 american customs dont touch it and no duty needs to be paid.

DVD Empire send you an email stating they received your order straight away, and you get an email when the order is sent.

I really cant fault them. I am prepared to pay abit more if it means I get fantastic service, and quick turnaround.

But I'm always on the lookout for a good, cheap no nonsence
service ;)

I believe they still do it for your initial order. Once its on record, you dont have to send it anymore.
I've used DVDEmpire once and my dvds turned up just fine after about 2 weeks in transit, but the prices arent as good anymore so I go elsewhere.

Ok, I have to jump in and support DVD Pacific. My order was 5 business days air mail. Obviously they had the items. I find they arrive always within 5 days of your credit card being credited.

As for price, I compared a "dummy" order with absound. They compare fairly even. Some are cheaper, some dearer.

As for them being the middle man. Seems to be common. Hell my orders from DVD Box Office, came from France. Go figure!

Glad to hear Mr. Macabre has had good dealings with them. Maybe everyone else is either too fussy, or they havent dealt and are just passing on information. Or they are getting mistaked with www.dvdpacific.com and www.dvdpacific.com.au
