Sound levels on digital

Was watching Ten last night, Simpsons and Futurama, with my STB
(DGTEC1301) hooked up to my Yamaha receiver via optical.
Changed to ABC at 830 for Blackpool (weird show!) and had to reduce
volume on the receiver.
Volume level seems to vary from channel to channel, anyone else have
the same problem?

Pretty sure it's the same on anal-log. All depends on the source material I
guess (?)

I find the ABC volume is all over the place if watching through Foxtel
digital, However if I watch ABC through HD STB the volume levels are stable.

Some programmes sufer from this as well. MASH on Seven is always quieter
than their other shows.

I find the same where SD is much louder than HD, it is so annoying as you
have to constantly adjust volume! I had thought it was the PVR (Toshiba
HDD-J35) & still think that it probably is.

Its a great shame that each channel (position) doesn't have individual
settings. The 12 year old Grundig I recently had to bury had individual
settings for every channel (sound contrast brightness)! Ah - the good old
days!

Sat down and listened to each channel, it's pretty much 10's audio is
lower than everyone else.
