Wonder what has happened. My PVR no longer displays the programme info.
Major pain when you are recording stuff.

Especially if you have a PVR that caches the last-received EPG info. As a
result, everything on Ten for days has been saved as "This Is Your Day With
Benny Hinn".
I have to keep reassuring my friends that no, I haven't joined a cult,
really I haven't... :)

EPG is so abysmal I haven't used it for months! I just manually enter the
programme name when I set the machine to record. It's a laborious task but
at least it's reliable!

I think that I'd rather "laboriously" press a few buttons to choose the
start and end times, instead of relying on so called scheduled times to
capture the start and finish of a show or shows. Especially if the show
I want to record starts after one of those bullshit "reality" shows...

With the Topfield 5000pvrt you can run a free 3rd party program that gathers
epg data from various free internet sources and loads it into the Topfield
PVRt via the USB port. So mine is up to date for all channels including 22
up till 27 Dec. Maybe it's time to trade up to a Topfield. The stations are
only loading in 'now and next' programs...

Is this the twin SD tuner version? The TEAC twin SD tuner with similar
functionality to the Topfield (so I'm told) is available at my local
JB (but they dont stock Topfield) for $700 - what does the Toppy go
for? And could I get the "free" info downloaded to the TEAC? Yes, TV
stations NOW & NEXT are crap... Staff at JB couldn't compare as they
don't stock TEAC: - can anyone compare?

There is no comparison - the Topfield is the only PVR on the market that
supports a native programming language, ie TAPS or Topfield Application
Programs. They are written mainly by an enthusiastic user group and most a
free or a nominal $20. . You cannot download EPG from the Internet into any
other brand that I'm aware of. You should be able to get a Topfield 5000PVRt
for around $750 street price.
This model is a twin tuner with 120gig drive. You can upgrade the drive to
300 gig without much difficulty.
You can record 2 programs at the same time as you are playing back a
previously recorded program.
The recorded programs are transport mpeg files that can be transferred via
the USB2 port (albeit a bit slow around 7 minutes per gig, an episode of say
Futurama for example is around 2gigs) to your computer to edit and make a
DVD or DivX if you wish.
Go to the Forum on the Topfield site and explore. It is a well supported
unit with lots of helpful members.
http://www.topfield-australia.com.au/product.asp?SKU=TF5000PVRT It really
changes the way you watch TV.
I purchased my Topfield at Retrovision for $850 around 12 months ago. You
should be able to pick one up fro around $750 t0 $850. Interestingly they
very rarely if at all turn up on eBay - like selling a member of the
family!!!
