G'day fellas
I just bought a Telefunken TDV228 DVD player and now I'm looking for a hack to make it region free. I got a lot of RC1 and RC2 DVDs I'd like to play on the box. So far, I haven't had much luck finding a hack. Does anybody here have an idea?
Cheers

It should have a service centre contact number on the top of the player, give them a call when they re-open, they have this info.

Thanks for your reply mate. I rang the mob up this morning. First, they reckoned, that the player was already multiregion. After telling them that that can't be the case since it is rejecting all my RC1 and RC2 DVDs, they said they's ring me back. I was kind of surprised when they actually did but they couldn't help me either. The guy said his manager is currently hunting the codes down himself and they'd give me a buzz whenever they have them. Well, until then, it's back to the drawing board.

Nope, nothing yet. I haven't heard from the distributors yet and my search wasn't very successfull so far either. I've considererd to contact Telefunken themselves but never got around to do it.
Apart from that, I'm fairly happy with the player. Sure it isn't really a top range player and you get what you pay for but plays what I want it to play. It even likes my little 40GB USB drive (as long as it is formatted with FAT32).
I'll keep looking for a hack. If we all do, we may get there quicker :)

They said it is region free out of the box! I can't get it to play anything but zone 4 though. Zone 1 doesn't work (tried 10 discs), zone 2 doesn't work either.

Then perhaps returning it and getting something else is a better option.

That's what they told me as well. After I said that it rejects anything other than RC0 or 4 they said they'd get back to me. When they called back, they said they are still trying to get their hands on it themselves.
The Answer is out there, we just need to find it.
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has found the code for this player? I recently purchased one of these to replace my Telefunken TDV223 (which was faulty). Being the next model, I was happy to replace it since I thought it would do all the things the TDV223 did plus more only to find it wouldn't play my R1 dvd. Been searching the net and have found nothing. I rang customer support and there were not helpful saying the player is already region free and I said it can't be, cos my R1 dvd wont play. He then gave me some story about how some dvds are coded region specific and can't be played. Which I know is wrong because the exact same dvd used to play in my 223. Can anyone out there help???? this is bugging me! I'd happily get another 223 but they are discontinued apparently.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, no luck here either.
Forget the customer support. They told me the same story about the player being region free but that's a load of BS. I've got a lot of RC1 and RC2 DVDs and they all play fine on other players.
I suppose they were referring to RCE DVDs, when they said some discs don't play on region free players. That's not entirely true though. Nowadays many players, after they've been made RC free, respond to RCE discs with exactly the RC necessary to play or even bypass the RC check alltogether.
So when they said the manager guy was hunting for the code, nothing came of that?? They didn't call you back? You think it's worth calling them again hoping to get someone a little more helpful?? :rolling: This is really annoying.... hows ur player going anyway damista?

And bought a TDV228 as well. The worst thing I did was not read this thread.
**slaps self**
I bought mine off ebay and of course it says multireg. Well I have hundreds of region 2 dvds. I figure the best thing to do is to give it to someone as a present and try again.
Unless of course someone knows the sweet secret?

Burn the attached file onto a CDR
Please in the DVD player
The player will "Auto Play" and upgrade the software
