View Full Version : SD STB with RGB Output?

I shall soon purchase a digital set top box for my plasma TV and I'm wondering if any SD STBs come
with RGB and/or DVI outputs? The ones I have seen lack these outputs and RGB and DVI are the only
inputs free on the TV.
BTW, the TV is 852x480 so it would be overkill to buy a HD STB.

get one with SCART and buy an adaptor for RGB.

For RGB, the ALDI-sold Tevion ones do... but they are only offered every few
months and you have to be fast. Topfield 4000 does, as do Grundig boxes (see
Ebay).
Otherwise, ask at retailers. Usual rule is, if they have a SCART connector
on them, they will likely do RGB.
(btw I'm assuming you mean regular RGB and not RGBHV, which is like a
computer monitor connector).

I mean the RGB like a monitor connector. There is one on the back of my TV as well as DVI.

OK, that is RGBHV, you may be lucky to find a SD box with that. The SD SCART
models do not do RGBHV.
Having said that, even on a 480 line plasma you will still benefit from a HD
box as it can display 480p which should still look better than the output
from a SD box. So look at HD boxes and see if they have RGBHV or DVI
outputs.

Your last paragraph is just absolute bulltish. All SD plasmas are 480p so
tough titties. You will forever be stuck with LESS than SD Digital TV
quality. Your crappy plasma panel will have to downscale everything from
576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i down to 480p. People don't realise that a SD plasma
panel has less vertical definition than a portable 34cm TV. LOL

I think you're right that people don't realise that.

If you have a computer, try a MSI Digivox or Magicbox, DVICO USB Box.
All these will output SD and HD via RGB (r DVI if you compter has).
Clarity and colours are better.
I have a MSI and cost only $110 for HD.
