View Full Version : Sydney Reception Tonight...

Is it just my set-up or is it all bad?
Is it because of the high pressure etc?
Normally I get 90% reception registering on my Pana STB - but now it is around 50-60% and the pictures are pixelating etc...
Please let me know if it is affecting you!
Thanks,
Jon.

All 100% except for ch 7 but that's because I'm still using an antenna
suitable for analog ch 0 to ch 69 when digital doesn't need anything below
ch7, consequently the odd pixilation and sound drop outs on 7...

All fine here Sydney Artarmon Stranmitter. You may need to check your areal
to see if its changed directions or not pointing in correct direction.

Thanks - will check it out tomorrow to see if a bird has built a nest on it!

Also - if you don't bother with analog reception, you could replace your
antenna with a digital only one like the Hills DY10 or 14, ie Band 3 and 4
( ch 7 up to around ch35). By eliminating reception below ch7 you get rid
of a lot of impulse noise. Generally the 'bigger' the Antenna ie one that
can receive ch2 to 6 is or even worse from the old ch0 up to 6 the more
impulse and other interference you will receive that upsets Digital
reception. Sometimes a passive high pass filter will do the trick. Pending
the installation of my new antenna I have a cheap FM trap connected and that
has improved things a tad. (Dick Smith $5)

I am sure you mean that you don't need anything below Ch 6 which is of
course the 'channel' that digital 7 is transmitted on. I could not go past
correcting this in case any new comers pass by. And it follows that the
'bigger' antennas are for Ch 2 (some even add Ch 0 and 1) to Ch 5 and not Ch
6.

We're in South Sydney. Just got home and my partner said, "What's
wrong with Ch9 and Ch7... they keep breaking up?". HD and SD channels
same results (Teac 820 HD STB)
Our normal 90-98% reception is between 60% and 70% tonight.

Some break-up on Ch9 in West Sydney too. Signal keeps going up and
down to 50% with my TEAC 500 STB, but I can still catch it with a
sensitive Digivox HD and SD.

I have no problems with my Topfield PVRt5000 other than ch7. I'm in the
inner west of Sydney.

Similar story with our Avermedia STB7 in the kitchen
(http://phlog.net/entry/249365). Ch9 has been screwed for two days now
at 40-50% signal quality. Previously 95-100%.
The Teac 820 (HD) has Ch7 back to it's good old self (as good as Ch7
gets ;-) but Ch9 is still screwed.

The FusionHDTV card in this PC has both channels playing back
perfectly. It's got me stuffed.

The trouble is the inconsistency with areas, aerial and boxes.
Pretty crap to me if they push us something like this. Not everyone
likes to be a nerd with a TV to get decent viewing on ALL channels!!!
