dvd player is !@#$ing me ta death

Dudes,
I was hoping someone could offer me some help/codes/hacks to get burnt DVDs to play on my AWA DP220 (Big W) it only seems to play some burnt discs and not others i have checked the discs in question on my Voxson DVDMXK3 and they work mind you the voxson would play a beer coaster if there was something on it... The AWA will play multi region discs without hacks (Bali dvds anyway) but for some reason it keeps coming up with unknow disc on some of my burnt copies

You're out of luck. There are no codes to allow certian media to play, this is all decided by the actual laser in the dvd player.
If your not happy with this, and the player is relitvely new, your best option is to return the dvd player.
Second option being the DVDr's that it won't play copy them to media you know will work.

only reason i can think of is maybe you used dvd+r to copy instead of dvd-r,if you want them to play in a normal dvd player you must use dvd-r otherwise they wont work,it's common knowledge on movie forums what media you should use :) :)

Me too, I think it is only on much older DVD players that you have to use -R

I've only seen one player in the past that had a remote hack to support burnt media, quite a long time ago and only ever known one model to be like this (and I've had more DVD players than any sane person) so I don't think this would be the case. It was generally accepted that -R media had better compatibility with DVD players, most (but not all) DVD players will handle +R media these days, usually they are the most basic of players or very obscure brands that have trouble, even the burning software and the burners themselves have improved whereby they will make a compatible disc that many players that do not specifically support +R media can still play. In this case I would say that it is most likely the AWA uses a drive which does not have wide media support, they are not really in the DVD business, more typically targeting a different type of consumer than most brands, it is a supermarket brand for the most part.

I have found to my misfortune that some brands of disks will work fine initially,but degrade as time goes by, my son tried to watch movies that were burned 6mths ago and stopped mid disk. when I checked them on PC they had read errors. No more PRINCO disks! only TDK or VERBATUM from now on

All brands will degrade, just some will do it faster than others, leave them in sunlight and see how long they last:eek:

Then what is the point of storing data,photographs and movies onto disk if you're going to lose them.

I was wondering about this just the other day.
I know there used to be theories about videos, that you should transfer anything you wanted to keep to a new tape every 10 years or sooner.
Although I always wondered how effective that would be since copies of copies would be worse anyway.
I have plenty of videos that are no longer playable, probably due to age rather than overuse.

Has anyone come up with any ideas about an average timeframe for transferring stuff to new dvd's. Whether it be 3, 5, or 10 years, or in thornton melon's case 6 months.:eek:

I guess at least you can make copies without losing quality like videos, providing of course that you decide to do it before the original has carked it.:)
