Hi,
i was would like to know when analogue broadcasts will end here and what
that will mean to us analogue TV owners.

Also, what type of digital broadcast the TV stations are sending out?
Is it standard definition or high definition?

Sorry for the noobie questions, i'm trying to get a grip on this for a
future TV purchase.

What TV were you considering purchasing that has an inbuilt digital
tuner?

Not until 2009 at the earliest... and it won't all happen at once. It'll
probably be phased in starting with metro areas (who have had digital
services longest) and the regionals will go last - the whole process taking
3-4 years.

There is no fixed timetable as yet.

Don't worry about it. It will most likely not happen for some 10 years. Fuck all digital set top
boxes have been sold when compared to the number of TV sets out there.

Both A Standard Definition channel with DVD resolution. And a high definiton
(not true high definition) channel. Which nost of the time is just an
upscaled/converted version of the SD signal with a fancy surround channel
audio track.

Not until 2011 (hopefully the commercial networks will be
multi-channeling 24/7 by then....

Based on the current takeup of digital terrestrial TV, analog
transmissions will probably end around the year 8450.

There was a deadline, but it's been extended indefinitely from memory.

There was never a deadline.

31 December 2008 - although it will almost certainly change:

Maybe if there were regulations to make sure all new TVs being sold had
digital tuners the take up would be better. STBs are cheap, but how many
Joe Averages are going to go and buy a brand new TV (which will almost
certainly be analogue) and then want to get a STB too?

Craziness.

That date was never entrenched in legislation tho.
