Hi all,
Having got my Compro DVB-T300 digital TV card up & running on my PC, I
have discovered that while I get ABC & the commercials coming through
fine, both SBS (and not surprisingly, Digital44) are too weak for
reception. This is not completely surprising, given that signal
strength for these too is also lower at my TV (although adequate for
reception). The antenna is a combo UHF/VHF, but it is probably a
little underpowered for splitting the signal 2 ways
However, I figure that the cheap way to solve this problm is to install
a signal amp. First I would like to try a simple inline amp, rather
than the whole masthead amp thing due to ease of installation.
However, I have a few questions:
Can I get a signal amp that will to UHF only? My main STB reports that
the VHF channels are coming through fine (at almost 100%) so I don't
want to degrade that signal (SBS is 75%, Digital 44 around 50%. Any
special considerations for boosting a digital signal?
Does anyone know of an amp that runs from 5v? This way, I could run it
from USB power - since it is only needed for my PC it seems pointless
to have an amp going 24/7 (I want to use the powerup scheduling on the
card so switching the amp on/off manually would not be possible.
Lastly, are there any surge protectors for TV aerials that are worth
using? I don't expect one to save my PC from a direct strike, but I
would like some level of protection.
Thanks,
C
