Fascinating stuff. I believe SUV buyers are the new Volvo drivers.
People who believe that driving a certain type of vehicle will
compensate for their lack of driving skill and/or lack of confidence on
the road.
And much like the Volvos of old, these vehicles have lousy primary
safety which seems to not bother those who drive them.
This of course doesn't apply to people who use four wheels drives for
their intended purpose.

I think to sum it up,..if you want to drive a truck, by a 4WD.
I was forced to drive Patrols and Landcruisers at work on ocassion, and I
hated every minute of it. There's no way anyone can get out of a 4wd after a
long trip and be not tired, compared to a car. The main thing is the
constant steering corrections and the thud and vibration of the heavy wheels
bouncing into your arse.

And I believe those that proclaim them to be ill handling and , think 4x4
drivers are unskilled are probably the product of passing their driving
tests in an automatic power steering Laser, and hence foreth just think they
are skilled.

The only 4WD/AWD I've driven is a Territory but the first thing I
noticed was that the back end liked to sway a bit on the highway. The
rear seat passengers commented on this as well. It was a preproduction
model so I don't know if this was addressed in the final release, or
it's inherent in the style/size of vehicle. Is a Territory a "raised
falcon" or are the only falcon bits the ugly plastic dash?

If the Mini was jacked up four inches, had good AC and 4WD. Fun trip

No, a Falcon would have done. It's a bitsumin highway. The only reason we had
to take 4WDs was for the crappy access roads to our installations on
properties. So they were essential in this case.

If you are talking about older leaf spring on all corners 4WD's then
they do ride fairly firm and can be uncomfortable on a long drive but
any of the later coil sprung 4WDs from the early 90's on didn't suffer
those problems.
I owned a SWB 40 series Cruiser which rode very hard but I solved most
of the discomfort by fitting Honda Prelude seats, I suspect most of
problems with the lack of comfort is to do with the very ordinary OE
seats fitted to early models.
Current model 4WD's are very comfortable, a Land Rover Discovery is one
of the best riding vehicles I ever driven, it was as good if not better
than the NC11 Fairlane I owned.

no, becuase it folds in about 3 parts assumption/factually incorrect data

Well utes are different to the wagons as in any class of vehicle
I had an XB ute once, frigging rough riding dunger it was
I've owned 3 Hilux utes(still own one), all rough as guts(drove one to
Mildura and back, ARRGH that was bad)
I drove my 100 series from Sydney to Brisbane and never once felt
fatigued by it, that was after working a half day, driving to Sydney
from Brisbane, spending a few hours checking the thing out and organisng
the cheques and regos and shit then driving home
if it was a ute then I would have had to stop at a motel for the night
for sure

There are many Falcon bits on the Territory(the dash is a narrowed
version of the Falcon one) but the chassis/body/suspension is different
