Hi guys.

Some clown drove into the back of me the other day causing some minor damage
which is more than just the bumper (i.e. it has warped the back end of the
car slightly). I'm pretty annoyed as although the car is 10 years old it is
still in otherwise good condition.

My insurance company (GIO) says I can just drop my car off at their
assessment center and they handle the lot from fixing the car to chasing up
the other guy for payment. But I've heard some of the work at those big
insurance company owned places is substandard.

* Any reccomendations of good/avoidable places in Melbourne East/Southeast?
(I'm in Nunawading but willing to travel for good workmanship)
* Does being prestige brand certified (BMW/Audi/Lexus/Subaru etc) mean
anything in terms of how good the work is?
* Does having a computerised car jig give any better results than the
traditional mechanical measuring systems?
* I thought about maybe getting a respray at the same time. How much would
this cost (1995 VS Commodore, Maroon colour)?
* Any other tips or 'gotchas' - this is the first time I've dealt with
insurance company other than paying 15 years of premiums :-(

Cheers,
Craig.

I know (will be related by the end of the week) the owner of Box Hill
Panels, and they have fixed my car once and my friends car once and both
times have been excellent workmanship (IMO).
The only thing was they forgot to reconnect my central locking on one
door and the fuel release catch was not reengaging properly on my mates
car. Both easy 5 minute fixes.
If you want me to tell him to take care of you then drop me a line with
your name and car details.
Apply rot13 to get my email.

LOL **** subaru **** Prestige, when ????

The ins. company use *quality* bash_n_bog panel beaters, they are no
better or worse than the others. They do the job to the bottom dollar,
but as these prefered dealers do heaps of work for these companies they
have to be a certain std. or they wouldnt get the work on a ongoing
basis

They warranty all the work so you have nothing to fear, you can just
complain and not sign the release form till your satisfied.
Dont worry its ok to use non genuine or if your real lucky 2nd hand
parts...

Tell u one thing i have NEVER seen a quality panel beater in Australia,
PERIOD, they just dont exist, they are screwed down so bad that they
cannot charge enough to do the 1st world quality

You don't get around much, do you?
Pull the Falcadore vibrator out of your arse, and drive a decent Subaru.
As for panel beaters... I've used several good ones, and some bad ones. Same
with any industry.
