Greetings! Just bought a current model 320i and was wondering what fuel is recommended ie. the unleaded, premium unleaded or the higher octain products? Thanks!

If it's like the previous model (E46), it should say on the inside of the
fuel flap. E46 said 91 - 98 octane, but the service intervals were shorter
if 91 was always used.
fuck it, find the pump marked 'd i e s e l' and brim it.

ITYF that it's 95+ Octane.
There will probably be two ranges inside/near the fuel filler.
Anyway take it as read that the shite unleaded we have here (SCAM92-
and worse than the old Standard fuel) will fuck the BMW over.
Eventually.

It's that gutless I really don't think it's going to matter. :P

Consult the handbook.

Handbook and label on fuel flap specified a range of 91 - 98 Octane which led me to ask the question for what is recommended. eg. the new Shell Optimax Extreme has an Octane rating of 100 - would it cause damage to the engine?

Doubt it although you probably won't see any real benefits out of it using
100 octane rated fuel. I am yet to be totally convinced that the 100 octane
unleaded has any benifits over the 98 octane fuels.

Nope. Using a fuel with an octane rating higher than required only damages your
wallet.

You're more likely to notice a difference in hot, dry weather.
100 RON is less likely to cause engine damage than 91 RON.

Truth....
But,
The ECU might manage to advance the timing a tad with the better fuel.
And of course if you don't actually use that extra couple of HP, there
might be a slightly better fuel consumption figure to calculate at the
next fill.
Might.
But you can bet your left nut that the dollars you pay won't be
significantly less as a result.
On the bright side, you might just get to the next (wood-duck
training) cheap fuel day with that tankfull.
Might.

Certainly not, it can only be better for it although in real life you aren't
likely to notice any performance benefit from 98 to 100..
