When double demerit points are in force I notice the P plate drivers drive to their speed limit and don't do stupid things.Maybe they need to have it in force all the time for P platers as it's the only time I see them driving sensibly.

P platers should only be allowed to drive 1.5l cars for at least 2 years. But
because of the $$$$$ (car mods+petrol+fines) those dickheads spend NOT A
CHANCE.

In effect, they do. In NSW, P platers only get 4 (P1) or 7 (P2) demerit
points, so between 1/3 or (roughly) 1/2 what a full license gets, or
basically the equivalent of being on double demerits all the time.

During double demerits this means a P1 will loose their license for
getting caught speeding, regardless of the speed (0-15 is 3 points, x2
is 6), and a P2 will be left with at most 1 for the same - that's why
you see most of them on/below the limit.

That said, I got passed by 2 P platers on the Anzac bridge at about 5:40am
this morning. It's a 60. I was doing about 62 (GPS-based, so accurate-ish).
The first, a Green P (P2), was doing easily 75-80. The second, a Red P (P1)
left me for dead, and was easily doing 85+.

Some people just don't get it...

Scott.

get what? 85kmh on the anzac normally is perfectly safe assuming proper
levels of skill, triply so at 5 fucking 40 am.

when are you booked in for the rest of your lobotomy?

You just dont get it, do you?

Begin extensive road safety training:
Speed kills.
End training.

You are only ever safe if you're doing the number in the little red circle -
NO MORE, NO LESS!

He was talking about loss of of "P" platers licence being too easy by
speeding, no one mentioned whether it was safe or not

ROFL... that'd have the opposite effect - it would probably result in more
P plater deaths. It would also be unfair for those who can't afford their
own cars and have to get by using their parents cars (or get 'hand me
downs'). What if there isn't a 1.5L car in the household?

Ext User(Brenden Will)

Yup, speed kills not driver error or mechanical failure. rofl The problem is
humans make errors. Thats just life. Sometimes these errors hurt.

The speed doesn't actually kill. It's the sudden stop that does :)

Bad idea and it won't happen, the NSW Govt would have to invent 10 new
taxes to regain the lost revenue they used to get from the 1000's of now
unlicensed drivers:-)

You mean sensible like adhering to the stupid 80 km/h speed limit imposed
on NSW P-Platers that is dangerously low when merging with a 110
km/h freeway?

You have, it would seem, completely missed the point.

85 in a 60, on Red P's, during double demerits = Loss of license. In this
case it doesn't matter if it's "safe" or not. It doesn't matter if the
P1 driver has the "proper levels of skill" (and from seeming him/her
drive I'd say not, but I digress as that's not the point). It doesn't
matter if it's 5:40am or not.

Scot.

This probably needs to be a new thread but can some of the ppl who agree with the slogan "Speed Kills" please justify to me why european roads, where more cars, travelling FASTER than on Australian roads have less accidents?

It's not speed that kills, its a variety of factors such as:

Drunken drivers/idiots

Inadequate driver training. Teach people how to take turns at 180, then there will be no problems taking them at 100.

People who drive 30cm behind other people.

People who do 10km under the speed limit. <---- far more dangerous than people who speed.

I reckon when they lose all their points suspend them for a year not 3
months like NSW does at the moment.

No. Ban them for life. That'll teach them for exceeding the speed
limit twice in 3 years.

What a load of crap. I was overtaken in 110 zones while cruising on 118
on both Thursday and Sunday. This applies to both red and green p platers
(NSW), and the speed differentials were 15+, not just slightly over my
speed.

really?

ive been amazed that in the truck down the hume, very few people are going
anywhere near 120 these days. and the p-platers i see are sticking to
100kmh, something that can be quite annoying with the 100limiter :)
