i seen this story on the news, what i fail to understand is how they
managed to get up enough speed to do that much damage in one of those
multilevel carparks...but the i suppose it IS(was) a ferrari lol

The claim was that the throttle got jammed wide open.
Having worked on a few Ferrari's in my time, that would not surprise me in
the slightest. They are an absolutely *terrible* car as far as build quality
is concerned.

I hope for the newlyweds' sake that it IS the case. I once considered
treating myself to the hire of a car in that class (i.e. high
performance sports car) for a weekend, but was put off by the fact
that all of the places that I looked at offered insurance with a $10K
excess. Despite the fact that I've thus far (touch wood, cross
fingers, scarifice goat) had a zero accident driving record, there are
far too many bozos on the road for me to be inclined to take that
risk.
The last thing you'd want AFTER the cracked ribs is to start married
life with a $10K bill for an insurance excess. (The article doesn't
say, but my *guess* is that it was a hired rather than owned car.)

Jammed after giving it a blat? In a carpark, had they not been giving
it stick, I would have thought the driver would have had enough time
to slip it in neutral and hit the anchors since the impact looks like
it was going at a decent clip..

That would definitely have to be the case, only because I couldn't imagine
anyone living in Craigieburn owning a Ferrari.

Without flooring the accelerator in the first place, is that possible?

There's a few possibilities to consider.
He may have been giving it a squirt, but they also fold up easily against
concrete walls.
He may have tried to get it into neutral quickly but wasn't able to (which
is a fairly common Ferrari problem).
He may have got it out of shape easily on the carpark concrete (which is
pretty easy to do in something with some poke).
He may just have been a retard who couldn't drive a nail into a pound of
butter (which also happens to be a fairly common problem with Ferrai's :)

It can be.
They run some pretty shitty throttle setups.

I reckon he tried to do a burnout and farked up.
I know I would if I was in the same situation ;)
Maybe his massive clogs hit the accelerator as well when he stomped on the
brakes. Some of them Italian cars have some pedals close together.

Hehe.
Reminds me of years ago when the dealer principal of the Honda dealership I
worked for decided he'd take a customer for a hoon in the brand new NSX demo
we had with the traction control turned off.
He went out of the driveway, gave it a bootful and resoundly flicked the
thing straight into the nearest power pole doing about 50 large worth of
damage.
I laughed so hard I nearly threw up :)

how about he 'hooned' it, and fucked up and hit the wall, and then the
heavens smiled on him and jammed the throttle linkage during the crash
