round # 2
Here, esp. for you 380 [all over bar the shouting]:
"We’ve decided to reveal the exterior of the car some months out from
launch in order to let large car buyers know there is ****an
alternative to the traditional large six on the horizon,**** ”

What the hell are you on? Anyone clicking on that link will be disappointed
to find there's no picture, and secondly.... the car is NOT going to be
called Avalon!
So what was the point of your post again?

Ah yes, shaping up to be the most utterly pointless new car release of
the year - spend a lot of money to create a brand new, unique to
Australia model in a shrinking market segment when you could just keep
building the V6 Camry instead and probably sell just as many...
To me, this car looks like a bloodyminded attempt to take on Holden and
Ford at any cost rather than a well thought out business strategy.

Do you mean the car or the strategy?
I keep reading that the new Toyota Australia big car is a unique
product, not related to the US Avalon.

"the new car would redefine the large car market in Australia"
10 years ago they said that about the V6 Camry. We kept buying Falcons and
COmmodores.
Please TOyota, make a rear-drive - then we will talk.

Yeah, I remember all that talk from Toyota in early '93 - that in ten
years time the medium size car would be the most popular segment, that
the Camry four would be the best seller supported by the Camry V6, that
the Falcon was a dinosaur...
....then in 2000 came the Avalon, which was going to revolutionise
everything, sell millions, give Holden and Ford something to think
about (no mention of whatever happened to the Camry becoming the best
seller)...
....and now in 2006, here we go again.

I actually think they are correct but their timing was out by a few years.
Who would of thought it possible for a Corolla to be the top selling car
which it was a couple of months ago?
If Toyota could make a car that looked half decent it would outsell the
other 2 despite being FWD which IMO is not as important an issue as many
try to make out.
