Hi,

I just got my VS commodore wagon weighed at a weighbridge as part of an
engine conversion. It came up as 1480kgs, where the rego papers list it
as 1392kgs.

How do they get 1392kgs when I got 1480kgs? How much fuel is onboard
when they weigh them.

Also, the engineer suggested that the RTA charge more for rego should
the new tare weight be over 1500kgs. Is that right?

Just for the record, I seem to have left my spare wheel and jack at
home when I got the car weighed, the towbar was off, and it only had
about 10 litres of fuel in it. :) Do you think that affected the
weight?

Maybe they use a butchers trick ? (apply a digit when required to the
scales)

Yeah right. The car was 1640kgs with me in it! (and some other stuff
and a full tank of petrol)

I don't think the RTA really care how much I weigh, so I figured I
should be out of the car at the time :)

I don't know how a commodore can be 100kgs lighter according to the
maker?

Pick half a dozen weigh bridges at random, and you'll get half a dozen
readings. Sometimes the difference can be as much as a couple hundred
kilograms.

Thats pretty strange, i weighed my VS on a weighbridge once, it was
1320.
Oh and it had the towbar on, a full tank of petrol and was half full of
my usual stuff (papers, books, esky ect).

Of course, the rta are like any other part of the government, they
would use any excuse under the sun to charge you more.

Go into Sims metal and weigh it on the incoming and outgoing weigh
bridges...

10 bucks says it'll way light on the way in, and heavy on the way out ;)

Especially if they are weighing scrap metal to be purchased by them :)

Speaking of which, a friend rigged up a bunch of old drums under a
trailer, and even under his truck, so when he drove back over the
weighbridge (to get the weight of the car by subtracting weight of tow
vehicle and trailer) they must have thought he was dropping off sherman
tanks.
