Hello.
I have an Orange CDMA prepaid phone. Orange and Three have just been
"merged" by the head company, Hutchison.
The Hutchison boss said yesterday that he is prepared to lose some
"low-value" Orange customers, who don't add much revenue to Hutchison.
I couldn't find any offers for Orange CDMA prepaid customers who want a
Three prepaid service.
Am I right in saying there are no offers for Orange prepaid customers
to switch to Three prepaid? Am I looking in the right places?
Does this mean that Three doesn't want Orange CDMA prepaid customers,
as they are too "low value" to justify keeping?
Noodle.
"For Prepaid customers
You can continue to recharge at one of our participating outlets, keep asking for Orange recharge vouchers.
Over the next few months, you’ll see the 3 logo on your recharge vouchers and in the stores from which you purchase them. We will be in touch soon with details of exactly when this change will happen.
Soon we’ll be contacting you with information about upgrades, special deals and more."
From 3 Website.

How soon is now?
I want to upgrade to prepaid Three services RIGHT NOW, not in three
years when they switch off their CDMA network! And I'm positive that
the timeframe what they mean by "soon" for prepaid customers.

Then go out and buy a new 3 prepaid and port the number.
Why do you urgently want a free upgrade? Orange don't owe you anything until
they start closing the network or something.

Ah, The Smiths.

I suspect Orange prepaid customers aren't going to get a better deal
than they have currently, by migrating to 3 Prepaid. Stick with Orange
while it's still around, unless it's the 3G tech features that you're
after.
The upgrades to contract OTOH, don't look too bad at all... 9c/30sec on
$18 plan with a free handset (incl Nokia 6280, LG U880). Video calls
for 9c also. Plus 200min/mth free voice to 3 (CDMA or 3G). Plus 100
SMS/mth free to any Oz network, 15c thereafter.

The plans are great.
However, I am personally against signing any kind of contract with
monthly payments that tie me down for any period of time greater than a
week (that's why I rent :-)
But you're right, sticking with Orange CDMA until it disappears may be
the best policy.

Orange are fucked, no way I will transfer to the inferior netowrk "3". At
least you could roam to Telstra CDMA on Orange. Give them the flick, damn
Hutchinson Whampoah.

True, but Telstra GSM doesn;t work in so many places that CDMA does.
