Does anyone know whether these DVD players can be used with a HDMI to VGA adaptor?

I have an Infocus projector (X1) that supports the upscaled resolutions but only through a VGA (HD-15) input.

Is there such a cable - I would have thought that a HDMI connection is digital and the VGA connection is analogue - so you cant just pin-convert the signal. Also the HDCP requirement of HMDI would be bypassed if you could 'downconvert' the signal, so it would violate the whole point of making a 'secure' HDMI connection in the fist place.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what a vga (HD15) input actually is, but I thought that was an analogue input.

You can certainly do it using a transcoder, but these are expensive.

Why not just bypass the HCDP

There is a thread about this on DBA http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=27734&st=20

... and there is a suggestion that the macrovision hack (? why this one?) will allow the player to upscale over component.

As I have neither player nor HDCP display, I cant test it.

Thanks scalpel,

Upscaling over component is definitely the better option for me, I didn't realise there was a hack for the copy protection. Appreciate pointing me in the right direction.
