Just saw the latest Toshiba 42" plasma (42WP56) at Dick Smith.
Clearly beats *every* other plasma on the market.
I first thought that it was new SED TV. But it was not.
It does not seem to be HD, but looking at it, I felt that all who had bought
plasma TVs already had wasted their money (HD plasmas included).

One thing I do not get. I heard Toshiba was quitting Plasma market because
of new SED TV. Now they made this one ...

The Castel Electronics site would initially make you think this is a HD
display but it isn't.
http://www.castel.com.au/toshiba/ProductDetail.asp?Brand=T&Category=PLASMA&ProductCode=42WP56

Spec says 852 x 480 resolution which is SD not HD.
At r.r.p.of about $3,700 it's over priced for a 42" display IMHO, although
brightness is good and 10,000:1 contrast ratio is outstanding.

Cheers,
Alan

Anybody know what the manufacturer's warranty is?

I think you will find it was set up correctly with a HD STB driving it.

"every" is a big word and just cheapens your comments. Makes me think you
work for Toshiba.
I'll take my 50" HD Ambilight, thanks.

No I work for myself.
And I still have 36" Belgium made Philips CRT.
It is very heavy and takes lots of space. So I have wanted something flat
for a while.
But every time I go and look at plasmas/lcds I decide to stick to my CRT as
*none* of them (cheap comment again sorry) matches quality of the picture on
my Phillips.

This Toshiba was the *very* first flat TV that caught my attention to such a
degree that, if I did not know that SED was coming, I'd go and buy it.

The impression Toshiba makes, when you look at it in the shop, is a little
bit like if you were looking at a colour TV amongst b/w ones.

Alex, I have to agree. I'm still using my JVC Interiart CRT TV. Yep, and
I've seen heaps of plasma and LCD (not rear-pro) panels and I've yet to view
one that has as good a quality pic as my CRT TV.

What seems to me to be a problem with all of them is a kind of "dot crawl"
around moving objects especially. Kind of like the display panel is having
problem keeping up with the changes in video information sent to it. It
doesn't seem to matter what the source is (within reason) or the mode of
connection used (component or HDMI), they all seem a bit disappointing. :-(

This has probably been the sole reason I haven't bought a new display to
replace the JVC..

Cheers,
Alan

I just looked at it again at another DSE store and was less impressed ...

In the first store it was some Channel 9 HD TV show on it, probably fed by a
HD STB included in the deal.
The Tosh clearly stood out from the rest there. It was brighter, sharper,
more colourful etc.

This time is was a DVD movie and the Tosh did not look better than for
example HD Panasonic.
Although it was harder to compare them this time.

May be it is still the best but I am no longer sure.
I will triple check next time before posting ;)

I love my HD 86cm Toshibia. Ill wait till SED comes down in price and
get me a 100cm plus 1080p TV. Well worth the wait me thinks :)

I realy hope the Dot Pitch of SED is as good as a monitor. As i want
to use it as such in my lounge room. Like iam using my 86cm TV :)

Bring on SED your Wonderfull people at Toshiba.

Cha Ching.
