I love how every company was doing better this Jan than last: except for
Mitsubishi esp the 380.
And large 4wds are down by 30%
And alternative fuel cars are a piss in the ocean.,
Australia loves a 4 cylinders.

I thought it was great when those figures were announced... particularly the
"30% drop in large 4WD segment".
The anti 4WD brigade have really been hammering the point that (very
paraphrased, only roughly) in 1980 it was about 10% of new car sales was
4WD's and now it is about 30% (something like that).
They use that as part of the justification for their banning 4WD and / or
banning bull bars philosophy. We already have some schools talking about
banning 4WD's within their carparks. Very annoying if you use your fourbie
for what it is intended, and then once a year the missus uses it to pick up
the kids as her car is in for a service etc, and she gets abused for driving
a "child killer" blah blah.
The fuel prices *are* very annoying and too high etc (different discussion)
...... but it is nice to see those who *need* a 4WD buy one, and those
considering a 4WD just cos they have 4 kids buy a Falcadore wagon instead.
Helps us out.

That's probably exactly the scenario that people fear - someone driving
a large 4WD who is not well practiced with it and so has the higher risk
of an accident.
As for fuel economy, the Nissan Patrol 3.0 TD gets better mileage than
medium sized 4WDs like Prado (NRMA TCO review from a year or two ago)
and even better economy than Ford station wagons! I say this because I
drive a Ford wagon and the trip computer says it's averaging 14.5
l/100km whereas the Patrol does about 9 (so I'm told).

binary numbering system and those who don't.

Stick a turbo diesel in a falcadore and reap the benefits of good fuel
economy. Lose all your power though, unless buckets of torque at 1500rpm is
all you require. And you enjoy sitting at idle with a rattly old diesel
shaking the shit out of the car.

Sounds like you've conducted that comparison very scientifically.

Yes. and you will see from my post I say that is a *bad* thing. So in a
little tiny way, fuel pricing is being a *good* thing for 4WD enthusiasts as
there is a lot less Toorak tractors being bought

I used to think that too.
Until my 3 year old Ford shit itself and a number of mechanics told me the
Fords life expectancy these days is 100,000kms. We did 108,000!!
Then, we seen the light!! We were taken to the promised land..... well the
Toyota Dealer anyway!!
I can not fault the Toyota Prado, even if it is just a 2.7L 4cylinder.
Comfortable, good riding, runs well off road, tows even better and the air
conditioner gives me frostbite on the knuckles!! I love it!!

At least the Ford Courier/mazda Bravo 2.5 TD Seems to be.
But guess time will tell, so far only done a quick 60,000 in it and so
far am impressed.
