In March this year for 3 weeks. As reported in the SMH.
Nothing to do with poor sales of the 380 (700 odd in January), it was all
planned!!!!!!
And the $5,000 reduction in the RRP was confirmed. and now they are adding
$2200 of extra goodies on 2005 stock.
Whats more they will only produce the number of cars that they get orders
for.
Ohhh they have rreduced their forecasts sales from 2,500 per month to 2,100.
Sounds promising does it not?

Up to around 180,000kms then all Mitsis that Ive had/used need rebuilding,
the bodies all are okay as are most switches etc, its the drive chain that
lets em down.

Cheap interior, bland styling, front wheel drive... and no resale value.
It's a flop.

I don't hate Mitsubishi, I drive one.
The 380 is a flop and that basic fact has nothing to do with bigotry and
everything to do with the product and the sales figures.

And just a month ago the head of MMA was telling all and sundry that
they won't be resorting to price cutting like the others and the reason
for the lagging sales was because of the higher petrol prices, thats why
they were cutting staff

Don't get me wrong, Mitsubishi have built some decent cars that shit on
anything else produced locally, but for a car that had to save the company
and had all the hype surrounding it's release the 380 is a letdown.

Nothing to do with that. I really liked driving the Magnas when our fleet
had them. I would have considereed buying one myself.
Problems withs Mitsubishi.
- resale value - ok if you buy one 2 years old. Tragic for new car buyers.
- Questions over Mitsu's future. They failed to adequately respond to this
issue. No-one wants to buy a car which they think they might have problems
with the warranty. Anyone remember the P76? What happened when Leyland left?
- The truck safety scandal in Japan. - Made everyone question the ethics of
the company. Again - not an adequate response. Do they trust Mitsu?
The 380 had to be exceptional to make up for all this, not just a good car.
A good car was always going to be a flop.

No V8 option, base model faster than upspec or sports models, and front wheel drive. It's just another boring whitegood.
Despite the fact that they are a good car, they don't inspire. Although base Holdens and Fords are nothing special either, they have hero models that get people into the showroom.

Ummmm, what is the "hero model" Camry?

Toyota don't need a hero car - they have a captive audience in those folk who like simple, reliable vehicles that go forever. There's lots of these people around!

So Mitsu don't need a hero car to flog an inferior product like Holden, they just need people to actually be convinced that the 380 is a better car and that MMAL is here for the long run.

I'm one. Bought a 2.2L '95 Camry with 155,000ks. That was 2 yrs ago,..its
now got 20,000Ks more on it with a total maint' cost of ;Oil and filters
plus 2 tires. Ohh yeah, its time to renew the coolant. The car runs smooth
and virtually quiet,..tho there is some overhead valve noise. They do give
you a sense of security. From what I can deduce from the Camry NG, the most
common failure is ignition-coils around 10- 15 yrs, followed by water-pumps.
The latter is more likely with no coolant maintenance where they fail in
half the time, otherwise up to 200,000 + ks is not uncommon. Precipitants
stuff the pump's seal. Ignition leads are next. About 10 yrs seems to be
their average life.
I know these stats are rubbery what with only a relatively small poll and
stuff. By far the most common non-critical or non-car brealdown problem is
oil-leaks, which get quite bad if oil-changes are neglected.
