"Bio-Oil" is a product that's being marketed as some kind of miracle oil for fading scars (and makes bold claims about reducing the appearance of stretch marks, uneven skin tone, ageing skin and dehydrated skin). I bought a 60mL bottle from Priceline, as it is currently being sold at a discount price. The good thing about Bio-Oil is that its (active) constituents are natural essential oils & vitamins - Lavender, Calendula and Rosemary Oil - as well as Vitamins A and E, together with a dry oil called "PurCellin Oil", and chamomile extract to help soothe the skin. This is a great oil for treating acne scars. It seems to create a rosy appearance.
A 4-week user-trial to test the effectiveness of Bio-Oil for scars was conducted in the United Kingdom by Ayton-Moon Consultancy. Scar ages ranged from a few months to 10 years, with improvements being recorded throughout. Each of the 3 scar types (raised, flat and depressed) responded equally favourably to Bio-Oil.
Bio-Oil is a South African product that is being rolled out internationally, starting with the English-speaking countries. It was launched in the UK in April, Australia in October and New Zealand in December.
Ingredients:
Paraffinum Liquidum, Triisononanoin, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Isopropyl Myristate, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Lavandula Angustifolia, Rosmarinus Officinalis, Calendula Officinalis, Helianthus Annuus, Glycine Soja, BHT, Bisabolol, Parfum, Cl26100
Note: Isopropyl myristate is notorious for causing breakouts. It is one of the most comedogenic substances in cosmetics.

I used Bio-Oil after I had my 2 year old. I used it for almost 2 years - and barely noticed the difference. It's not really very cheap either. Was dissappointed to say the least....
Would love to save up enough dollars (And probably will because Im determined) to have lipo-sculpture done - my goal is around 5 years time - hopefully after I've had a second child...

Placebo effect or does it actually work is the question.
Palmer's Scar Serum
Palmer's Scar Serum costs a little more, but contains:
Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, Shark Liver Oil & Silicone, Allium Cepa
For some reason, I still suffer from acne. Breakouts mean more scars and uneven skin colours which don't seem to go away.
I think I will try Palmer's Scar Serum also, after I try out the Bio-Oil. I have not used Cocoa Butter before.

Only if you pay by credit card.
Plus, call within the next ten minutes, well cut an extra $4.95 off the already reduced price...!

Yes. Salamander is fishing for information to help him get rid of his acne scars. Pay attention, boy! Read the thread before asking what it's about.

I have scars & skin discolourations of all sorts, and they don't go away forever.
An even greater problem is I keep having acne problems, just when I thought they've gone away.

I used bio-oil for about a year on a cheloid scar on my chest and it did nothing for it.
I've since tried Palmers Cocoa Butter for stretch marks and scars and that seems to be working better.

Do you get this from a pharmacy or supermarket or other? I might give it a whirl.

I got it from Priceline. It's about $8 for a big bottle. It smells really yummy too :)
I'm pretty sure they'd sell it at pharmacy's, and I've never seen it at a supermarket.

What do you use to exfoliate the skin?
A general method of scar removal by use of Hydroxy Acid is outlined at:

I went to priceline to get that cocoa butter so I'm going to give it a try. While shopping around, I also saw a bottle called L'Oreal Stretchmark Eraser and I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this and what they think?
It was about $24, I think
