I need the brake pads done and going to go ahead and put slotted rotors on
the van. Merc-Benz want about $1200 to do this, so I told them where exactly
I'd like to put them... I've dont pads on "normal" cars and even a big ass
Winnebago (Dodge 460) back home.
Is there anything I need to look out for on these? Looks pretty much the
same at first glance but with all the other crap I've had with this, I dont
wanna screw it up.
Thanks...

Hardly a helpful post... but...

Glad youre putting slotted rotors on, the stock Vito brakes are shithouse. I
cannot express just how underwhelmed I was with them.

Good luck with getting them done yourself, MB certainly do like to charge.
Had to do wheel bearings on my MB100 (read: ssangyong rebadged by merc) and
merc wanted 1500 for the wheel bearings alone. My KA Laser wheel bearings
were 20 bucks a pop.

Never buying MB again, got a new hiace turbo diesel and phwoar, definately a
superior vehicle in every way (including price!)

Yeah from what I've heard the slotted are the way to go. I don't know about
their cars, but if this thing is even remotely as problematic and anywhere
near the hassles of their cars, I'd never recommend anyone to touch them. I
haven't found one "happy owner" of these yet. But when you talk to the M-B
dealers & service guys, they say they hardly have anything go wrong with
them! lol
I hate liars. They've been good about replacing plastic bits that fall off,
but why lie? That alone puts me off these crooks.

Agreed completely. The FWD Vitos we've got (1 turbo, 1 non turbo) are
complete buckets, the non-turbo is so underpowered as to be dangerous, and
the turbo one has such poor brakes as to be dangerous. One wont go, one wont
stop :P Thats aside from the plentiful problems they've both had, which cost
an absolute fortune to repair. Oh and forget warranty, you may as well use
the paper its written on to build paper aeroplanes cause it sure aint worth
anything as proof of warranty. Had a water leak on one van which was due to
an worm drive clamp loose on the top radiator pipe. Took it back under
warranty (less than 50,000k done) and got it "fixed"... But they charged for
5 hours of labour, and the coolant! The only thing covered by warranty was
the hose clamp itself. Which after closer inspection, is the same damn worm
drive clamp. We queried them, and apparently it "was just loose, so we
tightened it". You gotta be shitting me? Charge for 5 hours labour, plus
coolant made of liquified gold (apparently, according to the price) and dont
even give us a 2 dollar hose clamp replacement? Or better yet, a 5 dollar
hose clamp that doesnt freek'n come loose every 50k? Urgh.

Funnily enough, the MB100 I own (rebadged ssangyong thing) was discontinued
because they were "too shit" (according to MB sales rep), yet mines had
hardly any problems? Sure, the wheel bearings broke but I sorta blame my
driving (http://www.filedump.net/Uploads/Movies/Stunt_Van.avi) more than
anything :) ... Its definately bad on fuel, but the diesels are apparently
quite good (mines a petrol). Pity they never offered a turbo diesel....

Moral of the story is we aint buying MB vans ever again, though the RWD Vito
we bought not too long ago seems ok thus far (hasnt even done 10k yet, so
heh)... Pity the wheel bearing incident didnt happen BEFORE we bought that
van, we coulda ended up with 2 x hiace instead of 1 x MB + 1 x hiace.

Neat Video :-)

I finally took it to a Brakes Plus place... $678.00 with new pads and
rotors, and all seems well. Still a bit pricey if ya ask me.
