Has anyone had any experience trucking a car from Canberra to Perth?

Not myself but I have some friend who had cars "trucked" from Melbourne to
Country QLD. Cars were picked up from their home, driven onto rail cars (or
whatever), transported to nearest major station, then driven to doorstep.

I understand the following conditions applied but, cannot confirm it. Owners
had to empty cars of any possessions (insurance reasons etc), provide them
in a clean state (to not obscure any prior damage), indemnify "transport"
drivers with supposedly good driving histories, and cars were washed on
arrival (once again to highlight any travel damage and to remove any crap
from rail travel etc).

All in all, a good "door to door" service but it cost approx $500 per
vehicle. I'd expect Canberra to Perth to be more expensive but the
alternative (driving yourself) is probably more expensive.

I did Melbourne to Perth last year. I used TNT. Cost about $1000 all up
including insurance.

This one is to stop people who move house from using the car as a means
of transporting their stuff

At the old Caltex fuel depots TDG car carriers would stop to fuel up and
most of the cars were full of crap, some so heavy it looked like the
springs had colapsed

the problem this creates is overloading for one, and then there is the
possibility of theft of items

so now the poilicy from most car carriers is that the car must be empty
of possessions

Rail can be a disaster for the painted surface.
New cars used to be covered in a spray on wax to ensure
that the brake dust did nt eat the painted surface on the loooong
trips to sidings up and and down the country.

Damage (other than brake dust) is still rife on the rail for anything
not in a container, it would be a toss up between the wharves and
rail for a winner.

Railways are still protected by law when it comes to damage, no care
no responsibility, and if we damage it we'll charge you more to fill
out an insurance report as well.

Road transport is good, quick, very few damages nowadays unless
you deal with some backyarder. Tolls, TDG, Patricks, TNT all
provide top quality and usually meet their delivery times.

main reason is becuase each load is made up by the tare weights of each car
with a percentage added on for safety. with zero tolerance coming in on
every axle now, they are even more strict about it.
