And also here ;-)

I was duped, says TV star Naomi Robson
Elissa Hunt, chief court reporter
29mar06

TELEVISION host Naomi Robson was unwittingly involved in a relationship
with a con man and drug dealer who became one of Australia's most
wanted men.

The criminal is on the run after breaking a promise to give evidence
against millionaire drug baron Tony Mokbel -- himself now an
international fugitive after failing to appear at his trial last week.

The current affairs presenter told the Herald Sun how she was duped by
the man, who racked up hundreds of convictions in a life of crime
before turning informer on the missing drug kingpin and exposing police
corruption.

"I had absolutely no idea of who or what he really was," she said.

Robson met the man through friends under one of his 20 false
identities, that of a successful company executive.

Robson, host of Seven's Today Tonight, went out with the criminal for
several months in 2000, unaware he was dealing drugs with Mokbel and
corrupt police.

She says she had no idea of his connections until after they parted
ways.

A Supreme Court jury yesterday convicted property developer Mokbel, 40,
of importing cocaine, in a case that relied heavily on conversations
the informer secretly recorded between himself and Mokbel.

The informer fled overseas with a $1 million bounty on his head after
his car was fire-bombed and he escaped an abduction bid.

The man -- dubbed supergrass amid court orders banning his real name
from being published -- was due to be the key witness against Mokbel in
his trial but absconded when released on parole.

The supergrass, who has convictions for fraud, gun offences and drug
trafficking, was named in a leaked police report as offering slain
police informer Terrence Hodson $50,000 to kill an underworld figure on
behalf of a rival drug dealer.

Robson said the supergrass, whom she says she "caught up with on a
handful of occasions", supported his ruse with brochures for a phony
business.

And she maintained she was unaware of his illicit activities until long
after they had stopped seeing each other.

"I think it's fair to say that I'm probably not the only woman to whom
a man has totally misrepresented himself," Robson said of the
experience.

"It's a warning to everyone that you simply can't take people on face
value, even if they are known to your friends and have brochures to
support what they do as a job."

But Robson angrily denied courtroom claims the man supplied her with
cocaine during their friendship.

"That is utter rubbish," she said.

Robson told the Herald Sun she had no idea that the man she thought was
an executive was actually supplying Melbourne's party scene with
cocaine and other drugs bought from Mokbel.

At the same time, the informer was working for the police and secretly
recording his conversations with the millionaire businessman -- and
helping corruption investigators catch bad cops.

"Years ago I met a person whose name I was told was (deleted for legal
reasons) who was known to a number of my friends as a businessman," she
said.

"It was a very short-lived association.

"We caught up on a handful of occasions and I didn't want to take it
any further.

"It was in the last couple of years that I discovered through reading
the Herald Sun and other reports that this person, the person that I
supposedly knew, had totally misrepresented himself to me and to my
friends."

She said she later learned of the man's skill at deception, including
his use of many fake names and false passports.

Discussions between Mokbel and the supergrass about his relationship
with her were ruled out of evidence during preliminary argument and
were never played to the jury.

"So how's Naomi?" Mokbel asks in a taped conversation. "She is all
right, she's made -- yeah," replies supergrass.

Con Heliotis, QC, Mokbel's counsel, also spoke during pre-trial
submissions of "a very juicy reference to (supergrass) supplying Naomi
Robson with cocaine".

Robson branded the allegations "a pack of lies".

"I think you have to remember these are the words of a person who is
clearly prepared to lie and say anything in order to obtain the
confidence of the person he is talking to, in order to deceive and
entrap that person," she said.

"Anyone who knows me would know that I am extremely anti-drugs."

The supergrass demanded $500,000 to come back and give evidence in the
Mokbel case after getting a discounted sentence for agreeing to help.

His whereabouts are still unknown and there is a warrant for his
arrest.

No, typical woman, full stop. Good looks and money but no idea where it
comes from, don't know and don't care, what matters is he seems "cool".

"Good looking"?

Darkie I know you is a misogynist but does that affect your eyes? She is as
ugly as a hatful.

Neil Mitchell said something similar on 3AW today. It was so close to "What
have we learned from current affairs this week?" from Chaser's WoE ep.1 that
he should have credited them.

They were the ones who probably found out about it, and leaked it to another
bit of the media so they could stand back and pretend to be above it all.
