More correctly it is called highly able
Genius is a difficult thing to measure or evaluate
IQ tests aren't worth the paper they are printed on
(I happen to have a high aptitude for IQ tests
and puzzles (eg Sudoku is ridiculously easy for me)
and always score way over 180 but all it measures
is aptitude not genius a far different proposition)
However my girls achievements exhibit
all the attributes of highly able and I could be
guilty of simple fatherly pride using the word genius
Reading at 2
Self Taught piano at 4
High Distinctions in UNSW Maths/English exams (top 1%)
State Medal in English exam (ie Top 1)
Invited to Year 11 arts program
5yo was able to work out football scores at 3!
Late bloomer as far as reading however
was 4 before he really mastered words
(not unusual for boys to be a bit later)
both have remarkable eidetic memories
my 13yo has stated before that it is tragic
that she can recall every episode of
Spongebob Squarepants!
The maths they get from my side of the family
all the rest they get from their mothers
(every single bastard in my wifes family
can pretty much pick up an instrument
and play it within a very short time
whereas I still can't read music for fucks
sake even though I understand the maths!

It's funny how things turn out really.
I have a close relative who is basically as dumb as dog shit but posessed of
a large degree of rat cunning.
He has managed to find his way into a position that would be the envy of
many peole with far greater ability.
You can never have enough street smarts .
