View Full Version : AUSSIE RULES SKILLS PRETTY POOR

Aussie rules is not really that skilful. I am amused why people think it is
more skilful than Soccer.
How can an Irishman who never played the game while growing up, came over
here, took up the game at a late age and won a Brownlow? What other sport
could you do that in?
Just proves that Aussie Rules is one of the least skillful sports in the
world.
Another point to mention is that in my first Aussue rules match I kicked the
two girls in the first quarter and a goal in the third quarter to be be the
top goalkicker at age 12.
I am a passionate supporter of Richmond but you can not compare Soccer to
Aussie Rules. I follow both sports and two of my friends have represented
Australia in Soccer and thus know both sports pretty well.
People on the board should not that too there are no late starters in
Soccer(all world class players start at pre high school age) at all whereas
Aussie has a plethora of late starters(e.g Rugby rejects).

I give this performance 2 out of 10. Mind you, I'm probably being kind
given you kicked those two girls in the first quarter.

I'm bemused by the way you keep going on about this, but I'm now bored
and have free time. I choose simply to attack this statement above.
What do you mean by skilful? Do you mean that soccer has more skills
available? That soccer is a more difficult game to play? That the
individual skills of soccer are harder to master? That there are fewer
masters of the skills of soccer? That there are more?
Or is this simply an aesthetic statement? Do soccer players *look* more
skilful? Do you prefer to see players leave the ball unstained by hand?
Is it the grounded nature of the contest that attracts you?
Or is it simply that you feel skills are decided purely on the basis the
quality of an individual disposal? Do you feel that physical pressure
sullies the contest? Do you feel that players not at risk of physical
intimdation are necessarily more skilful?
I think most of these questions are yet to be answered by your good self.

Jehovah's Bloody Witness! Been hearing this shit for years. Apply the
usual arguments - oval ball is more unpredictable and much harder to control
than a round ball - if soccer is so skilful, why do they score so few
goals - etc, etc.
But what is it with soccer fans and their obsession with 'skill'? Picking
up a billiard ball with your arsehole is a skill, too, but who'd want to see
it? Not me. So, does skill count for diddley-squat? Nup.
Never known proponents of any other football code to be so obsessed with
promoting their own code at the expense of others as soccer fans. Their
inferiority complex deserves to be classified in a psychiatric directory.
