Following the finalising of club lists prior to the National Draft,
I've noted below players who can consider themselves lucky to not have
been cut by their clubs.

Adelaide
# Matthew Bode: 26 years old and only 11 games in the last two years.
At his best is a very good player but injuries have effected him.
# Matthew Clarke: 32 & 6 games this year. Only Hudson's injury has
kept him on the list.
# Kris Massie: 25 & 15 games in the last two years.

Brisbane
# Beau McDonald: 26 & 0 games in the last two years. It's a big
gamble for Brisbane to release Mclaren & spaandemaan but keep McDonald.

Carlton
# Jordan Bannister: 23 & 36 games in 5 years since debut.
# Callum Chambers: 26 & 19 games in the last two years.
# Luke Livingston: 23 & 14 games in the last two years. He was a top
4 draft choice so really should have played far more games this (even
accounting for his injuries).
# Trent Sporn: 23 & 19 games in the last two years.

Collingwood
# Guy Richards: 22 & 14 games overall

Essendon
# Aaron Henneman: 25 & 17 games in the last two years.
# Justin Murphy: 29. Spent some time in the reserves this year and
many thought he'd be cut.
# Paul Thomas: 23 & 8 games. 2004 Magarey Medallist didn't set the
AFL on fire.

Fremantle
# Jarrad Schofield: 30 & 10 geames this year.
# Shaun McManus: 29 & 7 games this year.
# Roger Hayden: 25 & 0 games this year.
# Daniel Haines: 24 & 0 games in the last two years.

Geelong
# Paul Koularitis: 23 & 20 games overall.
# Cameron Thurley: 24 & 7 games.

Hawthorn
# Matthew Ball: 23 & 14 games overall.
# John Barker: 30 & 16 games in the last two years.

Kangaroos
# Chad Jones: 21 & 3 games
# Ben Schwarze: 22 & 0 games.

Melbourne
# Nathan Carroll: 25 & 10 games in the last two years
# Mark Jamar: 22 & 20 games overall.

Port
# Elijah Ware: 22 & 0 games. He had a serious knee injury this year
and may not be back for a while either.

Richmond
# Kelvin Moore: 21 & 15 games overall.

St Kilda:
# Barry Brooks: 22 & 7 games overall. I saw him in action earlier
this year and if I were coach, I would have sacked him there and then.
# Jason Gram: 21 & 9 games overall.
# Allan Murray: 23 & 12 games overall.
# At least one of either Peckett or Thompson. Both will be 34 next
year and while they are both useful players, only champions should
still be playing AFL at 34.

Sydney
# David Spriggs, 24 & 10 games in the last two years.

West Coast
# Brad Smith, 26 & 0 games

Bulldogs
# Adam Morgan, 24 & 14 games overall. I thought he was useless at
Port and I can't believe that he's still on an AFL club list.

When seeing the baove list, one has to feel sorry for the likes of
Guerra, Spaandemann, Mclaren & Lokan who have all been delisted.

# Matthew McCarthy. How many games in the last two years? Two?

Not that big a gamble as he'll only be on a one-year base contract. He was
briefly one of the best tap ruckmen in the league, before his terrible run
with injuries. Whether he can back to that form I don't know, but they've
also got Keating and Charman, along with Cameron Wood who's a highly rated
youngster.

Livingston has had a lot of injuries in his career, but you're right, he's
still been very disappointing. I really thought this was the year he'd
establish himself, but he got injured in Round 1, then got injured again
soon after coming back and struggled thereafter. He's on a 1-year deal, so
next year is his make or break year. Sporn has shown good signs in previous
seasons, despite a number of injuries as well, but he was crap this year. I
think they both deserve one more year to prove themselves though.

Bannister, Chambers, Longmuir, Prendergast and Wiggins are the lucky ones at
Carlton. From what I've heard some of them have been saved the chop mainly
because they have one more year to go on their contract, but I find it hard
to believe all of them are. I'd like to see at least two more of that lot
given the chop, but it doesn't seem like it's gonna happen. The only other
player who'll be delisted (eventually) will be Campo...

> Collingwood
> # Guy Richards: 22 & 14 games overall

Don't think he's lucky to be there...was very, very raw when he was drafted
but seemed to be developing into a decent ruckman before a bad year with
injuries this year.

All very lucky to still be there...Henneman is a Sheedy project though, so
he'll be kept around until he's 30 even if he doesn't get any better. Thomas
looks a pretty average player, and Murphy's probably only been kept around
so Campo can have a friendly face there.

Koulouriotis and Thurley both showed something in their games this year.
Thurley was taken as a mature age recruit from the Tasmanian VFL team and
has looked pretty good in a couple of games...Geelong seem to have a lot of
half forward types...

Barker's only going to be kept on the list if he can prove his fitness, etc.
If he breaks down again, he's gooorn.

Bit harsh....he was only drafted last year and his season was ended before
it began...at least give him a chance to see if he's good enough...

Agreed.

From what I have seen of Morgan, he can play, but his fitness compared
to others is abysmal, hence is injury prone and never looks settled in
the team. Both he and Walsh have been given this pre season to show
they can improve their track work ethic, or face the season at
Werribee.

hooroo....

I meant to include McCarthy on the list but forgot him. Still, anyone
6'6" usually gets some leeway, which makes it all the more surprising
that the Lions dumped Spaandemaan (who is only 19). I can only imagine
it must have been on discipline grounds.
