Following the finalising of club lists prior to the National Draft,
I've noted below players who can consider themselves lucky to not have
been cut by their clubs.
Adelaide
# Matthew Bode: 26 years old and only 11 games in the last two years.
At his best is a very good player but injuries have effected him.
# Matthew Clarke: 32 & 6 games this year. Only Hudson's injury has
kept him on the list.
# Kris Massie: 25 & 15 games in the last two years.
Brisbane
# Beau McDonald: 26 & 0 games in the last two years. It's a big
gamble for Brisbane to release Mclaren & spaandemaan but keep McDonald.
Carlton
# Jordan Bannister: 23 & 36 games in 5 years since debut.
# Callum Chambers: 26 & 19 games in the last two years.
# Luke Livingston: 23 & 14 games in the last two years. He was a top
4 draft choice so really should have played far more games this (even
accounting for his injuries).
# Trent Sporn: 23 & 19 games in the last two years.
Collingwood
# Guy Richards: 22 & 14 games overall
Essendon
# Aaron Henneman: 25 & 17 games in the last two years.
# Justin Murphy: 29. Spent some time in the reserves this year and
many thought he'd be cut.
# Paul Thomas: 23 & 8 games. 2004 Magarey Medallist didn't set the
AFL on fire.
Fremantle
# Jarrad Schofield: 30 & 10 geames this year.
# Shaun McManus: 29 & 7 games this year.
# Roger Hayden: 25 & 0 games this year.
# Daniel Haines: 24 & 0 games in the last two years.
Geelong
# Paul Koularitis: 23 & 20 games overall.
# Cameron Thurley: 24 & 7 games.
Hawthorn
# Matthew Ball: 23 & 14 games overall.
# John Barker: 30 & 16 games in the last two years.
Kangaroos
# Chad Jones: 21 & 3 games
# Ben Schwarze: 22 & 0 games.
Melbourne
# Nathan Carroll: 25 & 10 games in the last two years
# Mark Jamar: 22 & 20 games overall.
Port
# Elijah Ware: 22 & 0 games. He had a serious knee injury this year
and may not be back for a while either.
Richmond
# Kelvin Moore: 21 & 15 games overall.
St Kilda:
# Barry Brooks: 22 & 7 games overall. I saw him in action earlier
this year and if I were coach, I would have sacked him there and then.
# Jason Gram: 21 & 9 games overall.
# Allan Murray: 23 & 12 games overall.
# At least one of either Peckett or Thompson. Both will be 34 next
year and while they are both useful players, only champions should
still be playing AFL at 34.
Sydney
# David Spriggs, 24 & 10 games in the last two years.
West Coast
# Brad Smith, 26 & 0 games
Bulldogs
# Adam Morgan, 24 & 14 games overall. I thought he was useless at
Port and I can't believe that he's still on an AFL club list.
When seeing the baove list, one has to feel sorry for the likes of
Guerra, Spaandemann, Mclaren & Lokan who have all been delisted.
