Hi

Take a look at this site http://home.directlink.net/~timmy/M571/M571.htm . You should find all you need to know about the M571 there.

I have a v7a mobo and followed timmy's instructions without blinking an eye. I managed to run AMD k62 500 without any overclocking or adjusting voltage. All the best. By the way, M571 is quite a good mobo as it runs well with everything I stick on it, value for money too.

Have fun

brianve:

The fastest processor would be a K6 3 450 overclocked to 500 MHz. I understand that there were a very few production samples of K6 3 500 MHz processors that someone squirreled out, but this may just be myth.

If your M571 board will take the 83.3 MHz front side bus setting and you can find a K6 3 cpu that will overclock to 500 MHz, that would be the ticket. If you look for this, make sure you don't get a K6 3+, which is a different chip and won't work with any known M571 BIOS.

I'm running a K6 3 400 at 458 MHz (83.3 x 5.5) and on a second system, experimenting with a K6 3 333, which is still available in some places and is supposed to overclock to 400 MHz in some cases. I'm still working on this and hope to have additional information on the M571 site regarding this issue soon. It seems to me that many would be interested in a source of K6 3s at this late date.

Another possibility is the K6 2 500. It doesn't have the on chip cache of the K6 3, but this may or may not be too much of an issue, depending on what you want to do. they are available for between $25 and $30 in the USA at this time.

Regards,
timmy
