Is the antenna designed for Digital TV transmissions only viz ch 6 to 69 or
a full range unit covering the non digital channels below ch6?
If it is capable for example of receiving ch2 ABC analog you may well have
an electrical/impulse noise problem that typically sits in the low end of
the spectrum.
Go to the DBA forums for a full discussion on antenna types for Digital TV
versus Analog.

In which case the OP would have been experiencing this problem as
interference when watching TV without the STB, particularly when
watching the ABC. Can he confirm this?

What brand and model box?
How old is it?
Has it started doing this recently or since purchase?

Signal strength is not the only factor with digital TV transmissions -
signal quality is also a factor. Check to see if you antenna is optimised
for digital transmission ie ch 6 to 69 only.

It wouldn't necessarily be as noticeable on analogue as you don't have
the pixelation.
