A mate just bought a HD plasma screen. He's tuned it into the local
channels. He was telling me last night that WIN (a Nein affiliate) only
broadcasts during certain times of the day. The rest of the time it
displays a "test pattern' of waterfalls in gardens, trees and crap. He
has problems tuning in to other HD channels.

Any of you guys know what the HD rollout schedule is supposed to be?
Sounds like now may not be the time to buy a HD TV if there is very
little content and few stations broadcasting in HD format.

Aside from that, he's happy with the screen. SD certainly looks better
than analog and looks OK on his screen.

Thanks for that. However, there's nothing there that tells me the HD
transmission rollout. It just shows what's already occuring insofar as
any sort of digital transmission goes. All of them are in SD digital.

Wait till 2010 or 2020 by then everything will be in Ultra HD. Don't
bother now. No reason to buy a HD TV now or for atleast 3 years.

No Tv Station is trasmiting realy HD 1920by1080 and if they are its
only for at most 1 hour a day for a few TV shows, Waste of time.

I did how ever buy a HD 86cm Crt TV. Only because i can download HD
Movies off the net and TV shows and show them in REAL 1920by1080 via
my HTPC :)

Hope you did not pay to much for for your Useless plasma. Iam waiting
for SED TVS then i will have a Bigscreen 1080p TV and by then all TV
will be HD :)

Swwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeet.

why bother with all the digital stuff cause its all converted to analogue
anyway (so you can see it with your eyes!)
you could wait for some implant directly to the brain to bypass the inferior
human technology (middle age man with glasses).

I haven't bought one yet. My original post related to a mate who
recently purchased one and his comments regarding a lack of digital
content in the HD format.

Stations are required to do 1080 hours of HD per year. That is all, so
it's usually only certain shows during prime time and some sporting
events that get HD treatment.

During the rest of the time, 9 and 7 do "test" broadcasts of scenic (9)
and some better homes and gardens features (7). 10 and SBS upconvert
their SD content during the "off" times (essentially making it the
same). ABC only broadcast HD from 8am till about 8pm at night then
turn it off - but it's all upconverted as well (apart from their HD
content).
