I'm from Newcastle and every morning my Strong STR-5390 has really bad
reception. It clears up and the day gets on. Is any one else
experiencing this?

Also it only seems to break up when there seems to be around 50% of
white being broadcast at that time for example, an ad with a white
background make the signal drop completely.

Does that happen because it take more bandwidth to transmit white than
any other, so when it can't find the bandwidth it transmits poorly?

Is this a problem with my box or is it my aerial or something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

This might get you started:

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=srt5390+capacitor&btnG=Search&meta=

If that's what it is (the capacitor problem), Strong Australia are
generally pretty good about it & will fix it promptly (possibly for
free?) - you'd just have to send it to them. Anyway, it would be worth
getting in contact with them to see if your symptoms fit.

"Pretty good"?

They never replied to my emails about their bug-ridden STB; I ended up
junking it and buying a PVR from another manufacturer.

Ditto with regards to a Strong Satellite receiver that I have here. Had
some issues with it - emailed Strong. Never heard squat from the mob.

Stick with a reputable brand, I say. Strong, and other names that don't
appear to be mainstream are to be treated with caution. Particularly the
junk that supermarkets are flogging.

Unfortunately with them, though, the rubbish is so low in price that the
punters get sucked in by the low cost.
