Spent a couple of minutes with that infuriating "computer woman" only
to hear a busy signal when I was finally promised a human...
Called back, couple of rings, silence.
Ha!

I tried twice again (ie, a total of 4 calls) about 10 mins after I
posted. Still buggered then.
Is there any other way to cancel a mobile service?

you can go into a telstra shop and they'll arrange it for you on the
spot. they'll probably call an exclusive section called retail support
to do it. make sure you're informed of any early termination charges
(ETCs) if your service has a contract before your service is
deactivated.
hopefully by now you've succesfully tried calling 111 again, who've
passed you through the customer loyalty team to DE your number.

They wont call retail support, they will call 125111. there is nothing
difficult or dangerous in cancelling a service, chum

the question was, "is there any other way to cancel a mobile service?"
(apart from calling 111 all the time). Now if a customer can't get
through to 111, what's the next best thing? Go to a shop and have it
done from there!

Generally, have you ever tried using retail support yourself for any
reason?

so any comments you make about their performance or capability are obviously
coloured by that relationship.
