I should clarify. I was quoted the number of 50 towers a day but clearly
that doesn't add up to Q406. I'm told the network will be completed by
Sept/Oct 06 and they are looking for a national launch in Q107. Rumour
has it there will be a national launch and not region-by-region.

Seems all EV-DO/CDMA Bigpond Wireless/Telstra Mobile Data modems will be
replaced free of charge come 850Mhz network time, though mobile handsets
won't. The justification for this is Telstra say average replacement of
handsets is 14 months - well before the decommissioning of the CDMA/GSM
networks. Handy to know if you are a Telstra/Bigpond Wireless data
customer. Fucked if you intend to keep a CDMA/GSM mobile for more then a
few years. Who knows, this decommissioning of the GSM/CDMA networks may
never happen any time soon.

Yes, but are there going to be 850MHz UMTS handsets to choose from come
that release in 9 months time? ;)

And one's that don't have shite reception which decrease the 850MHz UMTS
chances of providing the same coverage as the present CDMA 850MHz even
further...
