Anyone have any suggestions as to a cheap PC tuner card to achieve the
following:

-PCI Digital terrestrial tuner card -SDTV adequate, HDTV a bonus. (single
tuner okay too)
-Capable of operating in an older (AMD 1GHz Athlon) machine. (XP)
-Software to enable timed recordings.

Basically all I want to do is set up and old spare PC on my home network
and end up with is the desired program on the disc of this spare PC (in
MPEG-2 form I assume) and I will handle the rest....
(i.e. so no decent video output or remote needed).

I intend to schedule the recordings using remote desktop or similar back
over to the spare box...

Cheers,
Keith

Its the same as the DVICO Branded card and will do All that you want. It
works well.

I have had this card running on an Athlon1000 with a Gforce MX4000 card no
problems.

If you require cheaper still I would maybe suggest looking at

DTV1000T_proddesc_Leadtek_Digital_Terrestrial_TV_C apture_Card_DTV1000T_PiP_
DirectBurn.html

Although I don't know if the software that comes with it will do all you
need, but it probably will

make sure your aerial and cabling are top notch as the glitches will drive
you crazy.
I had the dvico and had to sell it as the software driver drove me crazy
(because they are crap)
I would suggest buying a hardware STB for another room and watch TV there
and record on VHS (the quality is better than an RF recording and is good
for a TV up to 1m diagonal.)

Have a look at www.digitalnow.com.au - range of cards & their software
will do all you need. Most cards do both SD & HD - you just delete the
HD channels if you don't want to use them. You're looking at around 3-4
GB per hour for recording BTW.

Seconded, plus their support is top notch. Their cards have BDA drivers as
well so the OP can use Webscheduler for timed recordings which is the best
piece of software around for digital cards.

I've got two DVT1000s doing recording / streaming. The tuner is not as
sensitive as others (Divco, Nova-T), but if you are in a strong signal
area, they work fine.

Have no idea about the included software, I never opened it, i'm running
Linux and MythTV. So all I can say is the hardware works.
