View Full Version : My fun in a BF Typhoon. :-)

Had a drive of a new F6!
Very nice
I thought yeah ok a large Falcon with a bumped up blown 6 from FPV at the
eye of 270 kw and 550nm of torque.
The car in detail goes.
BF F6 Tyhy shockwave colour 6 speed auto with brembo brake package.
This thing is a rocket I notice no turbo lag probably a big thanks to its
automatic transmission.
Its one hell of a torque monster it just gets better and better when I
pushed the go pedal.
The handling is very good it soaks up the rough road surfaces but without
feeling like a boat. And I felt like it can go around
corners without making a too much of a mess. Well put it this way I felt
confident throwing it around the bends at a good speed.
This car is a pussycat to drive around town in with its tons of low down
torque and the gearbox was smooth and well behaved and
when I opened it up it was like an animal that needs to go to anger
management class.
Inside its a typical Falcon/fairmont with electronic climate controls and
with the extra gauges (oil pressure and turbo boost)
which looks very aftermarketish and other FPV trimmings . With the t/c
turned off it was not hard to get the rear end smoking no
complaints about the build quality really because I was too swept up in
driving the thing than to nit pick. The brakes were
great had no problems stopping this car at all a few bruises to the chest
from the seat belt but thats nothing.:-)
So in closing its a Falcon that its fast and handles great and has good
grip.
Has a good list of standard equipment the engine and gearbox is very good.
It looks great but that starter button is a wank.
Its comfortable and easy to drive around town.
It makes the V8 Falcons and some Holdens feel tame.
I cannot help but to like this car and I really think it has more than 270
kw at the engine I think they have understated it so
it won't show up the V8's.
But the exhaust note is good but nothing outstanding like a V8 its got a
throaty sound and when the turbo kicks in it sounds
nice but lack of the aural V8 sound thats what its really missing.
By saying this at the risk I would be thrown out from the knuckle draggers
club in a flash! But I am very tempted to get one in
the near future its just an excellent package. but I will stick to what I
have now
For now. :-)
8/10 for this thing.

It's also on my shortlist of cars I'll look at next. Typhoon and XR5
from Ford.
Small $$'s for big gains and stronger internals than the XR6T's. I'd
probably pussy out and opt for the 6spd auto, had a manual for the last
6 years, drove an auto recently in Melb and it was just so lazy :). I'm
putting off taking one for a test drive now though, I'm just too
compulsive and probably find it hard driving away if I love the ride!

Dan,
If you can wangle it, drive the standard XR6T and see if you can spot
where the money went.
I would imagine that you'll find the XR6T is 90% of the sizzle at well
under 75% of the price.

I've driven the BA XR6 Turbo's but the F6 handled, steered and stopped
better.
Also went harder.

Yeah sizzled is the word but boom is what the F6 was.

Don't count on it having a bench seat.

Are you insane? Dual fuel on a top of the line performance sedan?!?
Dedicated gas or petrol only for me thanks. You'd have to be the only
fool in Australia that would ask for a bench seat option in this
particular car. You are crazy! ;-)

Hehe, nice idea, but I doubt a sports ute is going to have a bench seat!

Already have a Boss 260 sedan. I tend to get bored with the car after
awhile and the Ute wouldn't be different enough. The Typhoon may even
fall into that category.

Yes, helps me get through the day.No meds. though!
>>>Dual fuel on a top of the line performance sedan?!?
Its a Ute anyway not a sedan, sure, why not LPG? LPG is just another
fuel, and 1/3rd the cost of that ULP poison
> Dedicated gas or petrol only for me thanks.
Why?look at the HUGE drop in a Falcon from LPG to LPG 190kW -v- 156kW
now THAT is foolish, you would have to be a fuckwit to want one of
those.
Together with reduced range
No back up system
Can run out of fuel
etc
You'd have to be the only

McLaren F1 had a quasi benchseat...BRILLIANT!

Cool review - I bet the F6 is a real monster. I will be considering one of these to replace my V8 Holden when the time comes.
And I think the comments about LPG were tongue in cheek - you don't buy a car like this for economy...

What's LPG got to do with economy? It's a _performance_ fuel FFS.
Just because a lot of losers don't know how to set vehicles up properly
to run on it doesn't make the fuel rubbish.
